Job description

Based at London Bridge, with UK-wide travel

Would you like the opportunity to work for the Royal College of Occupational Therapists – the professional body representing over 33,000 occupational therapists across the UK? Are you passionate about the development of the next generation of occupational therapists and how they go forward into the workplace to transform the lives of the individuals, groups and communities they work with? If so, you may be the person we’re looking for to join the Education and Research Department.

The Royal College of Occupational Therapists is seeking to recruit a Manager to lead the Pre-registration Education Team. In the context of a complex and ever-changing pre-registration educational landscape, the purpose of this role is to lead, develop and manage RCOT’s activities related to the delivery of pre-registration occupational therapy education in the UK. In order to achieve this it will be essential for the successful candidate to remain well-informed about relevant policy, legislation and practice across the four nations of the UK and the impact it has on preregistration education and learners. The role will be required to work collaboratively with internal and external partners to protect and promote the interests of our members and the profession, wherever possible.

In addition to overseeing RCOT’s pre-registration accreditation procedures to assure and enhance the quality of pre-registration occupational therapy education, you will manage a team of accreditation and student liaison officers. As a strong advocate for the profession, pre-registration learners and new entrants to the workforce, you will represent the Royal College across all four UK countries and at high-level Boards and meetings, which will involve regular travel to destinations across the UK, with overnight stays.

To be successful in this role, you will be or have:

• An HCPC registered/registerable occupational therapist with extensive experience of working at a senior level in pre-registration occupational therapy education within an education provider context.

• Robust understanding of all aspects of pre-registration occupational therapy education, with sound knowledge and understanding of the role and value of educational quality monitoring and enhancement processes.

• Excellent communication, negotiation, influencing and project management skills.

• A sound understanding of current education and health and social care policy and a working knowledge of current issues in higher education across the UK.

• The proven ability to work autonomously and as a positively engaged team member, and to effectively supervise, manage and support staff to achieve business objectives.

In the current context of COVID19, all staff are presently working from home which may have implications for the role going forward.

If you are interested in this opportunity and wish to discuss it further, including the possibility of flexible working arrangements, please contact Dr Jo Watson, Assistant Director – Education and Research via our website.
