Job description

The Royal Society, the UK’s premier scientific body, is looking in recruiting for an exciting role to help manage a portfolio of career development and engagement activities for researchers across disciplines and career stages.

  • Engagement Officer
  • Full time, permanent
  • Location: Hybrid with minimum 2 days per week at Carlton House Terrace, London
  • Salary Band B £28 000

The Royal Society is the independent scientific academy of the UK dedicated to promoting excellence in science. Our Grants team manage a range of fellowship and grants programmes which provide research funding for talented scientists in the UK and overseas. In addition, the Society provides a range of activities to support the development of the next generation of research leaders including opportunities for training, mentoring, peer to peer networking and engagement with the Royal Society.

This is an exciting role to support the work of exceptional scientists funded through the Society’s grant portfolio. The successful candidates will have a strong attention to detail and a commitment to high standards throughout their work. You will be the key point of contact for Royal Society research fellows and be expected to administer meetings and events (both online and in person) and assist in the development of promotional material for engagement activities.

This is a great opportunity to work as part of a dynamic and passionate team to help promote the work of its funded scientists.

We are looking for candidates with excellent organisational and communication skills to play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Royal Society's career development and engagement programmes for award holders based in the UK.

During COVID-19 our employees worked remotely, and we currently have a hybrid pattern of working in the office and remotely for some roles, and will be happy to discuss working patterns with candidates. Candidates considering applying should note that working outside of the UK is not permitted as part of our flexible working approach and travel from home to the London office will be at their personal expense regardless of location. With a fantastic historic central London office near St James’ Park, we hope to find an inclusive working arrangement that suits candidates. Under the UK Government’s Points Based System, this role does not meet the criteria to be sponsored by The Royal Society for a Skilled Worker Route application.

The application closing date is 26 July 2022 at 23:59.
