The Legacy Unit sits within the Finance Department of The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters in London. The purpose of the unit is to optimise The Salvation Army’s receipt of legacy funds without compromising the ideals of The Salvation Army. The Legacy Unit ensures that legacy funds are received and administered by The Salvation Army legally; in accordance with the deceased’s testamentary wishes; and within the practices and procedures of The Salvation Army. The Salvation Army receives more than £50m in legacy income each year and is vital to support the work of our churches and our social services.
As a member of the Legacy Unit, the Legacy Accounts Assistant will be responsible for the accurate and timely recording of all income in the legacy database system, First Class. This role will liaise with other members of the Finance Department to reconcile all legacy income and outgoings with The Salvation Army finance system, Agresso. This role is a crucial interface with other parts of the organisation, providing regular and ad hoc reporting along with other information as required to ensure the proper recording and use of legacy funds.
The successful candidate will have to demonstrate
- A minimum of 2 A levels (or equivalent) and have achieved or are studying for AAT Level 2 (A/R)
- Significant experience of working in accounts processing with a working knowledge of managing budgets and/or recording and monitoring income and expenses
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, effective time management and the ability to prioritise work, and be able to respond to tight deadlines
- A commitment to delivering excellent customer service and the ability to build and develop key relationships
This is a permanent position based at Territorial Headquarters currently located at 101 Newington Causeway, London SE1 6BN. The post holder will be required to work remotely until at least June 2021. Within the next 1-2 years the current office in Newington Causeway will be vacated. New flexible working arrangements are being developed in Central London area to reflect the changed world of work that has arisen following the Covid-19 pandemic.
