Fixed term contract until June 2025
One of the UK’s most inspiring and best known faith-based organisations, The Salvation Army, is looking for an analytical Litigation Caseworker to handle enquires relating to legal claims as part of a brand new contract.
The Salvation Army has been appointed to the Government’s new Modern Slavery Victim Care Contract to manage the support of adult victims of modern slavery in England and Wales. Through this new and extended contract, which runs for an initial five-year period, we and our specialist partners can build on expertise developed from helping more than 12,000 adult victims of modern slavery and human trafficking since July 2011.
Receiving, investigating, coordinating and drafting responses to requests for information in relation to Pre-Action Protocol letters, judicial review challenges and other relevant legal claims and highlighting issues relevant to The Salvation Army is what’s required here. Indeed, we’ll rely on you to notify, and liaise with, our Legal team about all relevant legal matters. You’ll also be responsible for collating information in order to help the Commissioner respond to individual claims. Robustly monitoring deadlines and compliance requirements will be important too, as will identifying, assessing and supporting the management of risks and escalating risks and issues likely to result in significant economic or reputational damage to The Salvation Army, or impact the safety and wellbeing of victims.
You will need:
• Either a minimum 2:2 law degree or evidence of passing a Graduate Diploma in Law, Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course or recent litigation case working experience in a relevant field
• Proven experience of managing a varied and challenging caseload and prioritising effectively in order to meet all necessary deadlines
• The ability to learn and adapt in new technical situations, including quickly developing a thorough understanding of the support provision for victims of modern slavery
• A track record of working successfully as part of a team and with senior management, specifically in a fast-paced, evidence-driven legal casework environment
• A proven ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels, including senior managers and external stakeholders
• Proficiency using IT software packages, with intermediate level skills in Word, Excel, databases and email
• Willingness to travel to work locations throughout the territory, with occasional overnight stays, as required
