Contract: Initial 12 month fixed term contract with possibility for extension.
Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Location: Home or Office based (Bristol) with regular and flexible travel (up to 10 days a month) required throughout the UK

About the opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to help shape and lead our Business Development Team for Food For Life. This role comes at an exciting time in the development of our new and ambitious ten year strategy at The Soil Association and we are looking for someone to develop and secure our portfolio of income generation to ensure a sustainable future for the Food for Life Programme and meets its ambitions for impact on Climate, Nature and Health.

Your role

As our Head of Business Development, you will work throughout the UK across a range of programmes and products to generate a portfolio of earned income for the Food for Life programme, including the management of public sector commissions and Food for Life Served Here accredited schemes, as well as working with the fundraising team to support other income streams such as Trusts and Foundations, philanthropy and grant funding

This is a busy, fast paced role, which requires an innovative mindset, to help shape and position our approach to income generation, including leading on innovative and responsive products and services that fit funders’ needs and generate future income streams.

You will enjoy building relationships, spotting opportunities and managing a small, dynamic and high-performing team to deliver a sustainable business model for the FFL programme.

About you

You’ll thrive in this role if you are an innovative business development leader, commercially-minded and committed to making a difference in the world. We are looking for a passionate senior leader, with the following skills and experience to make a real impact:

• Proven track record of securing relationships and income from public, private and charity sectors, with track record of delivering 7 figure sum income portfolio
• Substantial programme development experience across multiple range of settings and sectors
• Substantial experience of delivering and reporting in a multi-agency partnership, preferably in education, community development or public health.
• Experienced relationship builder across multiple stakeholder types
• Experience managing and motivating a team
• Proven experience of managing 6 figure cost budgets and achieving commercial outcomes
• Bid/tender writing with demonstrable success rate
• Experience of successfully positioning programmes as a means to help stakeholders/other organisations achieve their targets
• Sound knowledge of programme delivery mechanisms and the results of the evaluation
