Since its inception by the founder and CEO Sarah Brook in 2015, The Sparkle Foundation has been on a journey to support the vulnerable in the Zomba district of Malawi. From the smallest of beginnings, The Sparkle Foundation’s now reaches in excess of 10,000 children and adults per annum, through its education, nutrition, health and community outreach programmes. Operating from a purpose built site, we have about 30 staff on the ground in Malawi, all of them striving to enable people to lead their best lives and achieve their potential. The outcomes have been fantastic, and to witness the happy smiles on the children’s faces is something that stays with you forever.
Malawi is recognized as one of the poorest countries in the world, and yet is also known as “the warm of heart Africa”. Sarah, and those who have visited the operations in Malawi have many stories to tell, so why not hear some of those stories, and perhaps make some for yourself. Come and join the UK Trustee Board and help us make the difference, and keep those communities sparkling.
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Sparkle is very much on a growth curve, and is recognized in Malawi as an exemplar of how a charity should operate. We need an individual who can bring international charity experience, a good understanding of charity governance and knowledge of working in a sustainably expanding organisation.
You will support and become a member of Sparkle’s trustee board, which is responsible for controlling the charities' activities and ensuring accountability.
Trustees lead the charity and decide how it is run. Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact upon people’s lives.
Trustees use their skills and experience to support their charity, helping them achieve their aims. Trustees also often learn new skills during their time on the board.
They may be known by other titles, such as:
- Board members
- Committee members
