Job Description

The Staff College: Leadership in Healthcare (Staff College) is an independent charity dedicated to developing healthcare leaders and helping them to deliver better outcomes.  Our vision is to improve patient care by working with individuals and teams nationally to strengthen and develop the skills of leaders across the healthcare community.  Our experienced and well-regarded faculty draws extensively from the NHS, military, business and education perspectives and experience, producing a rich collective wisdom on leadership.  We work with individuals and teams across the health and care sector to design and deliver a wide range of leadership development programmes. 

The charity is in its second year of operation as an independent organisation, following 6 years based within the NHS.  It has a simple business model whereby it generates income through the delivery of leadership development programmes which fund its core activities and further development work.  Currently the charity delivers its own in-house Senior Leadership Development Programme, open to senior leaders working within health and care, and a variety of bespoke programmes run for NHS trusts and commissioners.  The majority of these courses are delivered in London, Essex, Surrey and Sussex, but there is an increasing demand for courses in the North West.

The charity is currently enjoying a period of expansion with increasing demand for its services.  As such, the charity has developed a new position for an Operations Manager who will lead on the day to day management of the charity and delivery of its programmes. 

The post holder will have a busy and varied work-load, leading on the office management, programme management, logistics, finances and administration for a wide range of leadership programmes delivered across sites, by a faculty made up of senior leaders from the NHS, the military and business.  This is a hands-on role where the post-holder will be expected to oversee the running of courses, getting involved with helping the faculty deliver high-quality programmes and problem solving as necessary. 

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisational skills, a professional and friendly approach, a genuine care for others and the ability to multi-task and manage a large work-load, often working to tight deadlines.  They will need to be a motivated self-starter with a positive attitude and commitment to delivering excellent courses and an eye for detail.  They will have the opportunity to develop themselves as well as helping to share the future development of the charity and its future workforce, whilst working with a dynamic and diverse team.

Previous experience of running a business, charity, service or not-for profit along with experience of managing the finances of a service is desirable but not essential.

Interview and assessment details:

Application deadline 23 January 2018.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a full day leadership development and assessment day on the 2 Feb 2018 and an interview on the 6 Feb 2018.  Applicants are asked to keep both dates free.

Leadership development and assessment day:

As an organisation that delivers leadership development programmes, and an organisation that likes to do things differently, we will provide the opportunity for short-listed candidates to take part in a leadership development and assessment day. 

The day will introduce you to our approach to leadership development, some of the principle concepts we include in our programmes and provide the opportunity for you to further your understanding of leadership and develop your self-awareness.   The day will provide an opportunity for us to get to know you ‘in action’ and for you to get to know us.  We hope that even for those candidates who aren’t successful, that you will at least gain an opportunity to develop yourself.
