Job purpose

We have an exciting opportunity for a Student Support Co-ordinator within our naturing team at Bridge College. The purpose of this role is to support student transition into college, throughout the learners journey, and out of college. Ensuring support for the learner is of a high quality.

About the role

The Student Support Co-ordinator will support the senior management team in actively promoting inclusive practice to ensure all students with a diverse range of learning difficulties and complex needs are effectively supported to fulfil their potential and personal aspirations. You’ll work collaboratively across the College service to ensure multi-disciplinary working has a positive impact upon the students’ learning experiences throughout their learner journey.

You will undertake a range of responsibilities to ensure students receive an excellent learning experience these include: implementing effective multi-disciplinary admissions and transitions processes, effective and efficient use and deployment of human and physical resources, supervision and performance management of staff to improve the quality of learning and assessment, analysis of data and the active implementation of safe learner concepts.

Education/Qualifications

  • Management qualification to at least level 4 or willingness to undertake

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years management experience leading a team within education, demonstrating ability to mentor staff to improve practice
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience of working with young people with
  • significant disabilities and/or learning difficulties or autism
  • Experience of working with students who manifest challenging behaviours
  • Evidence of highly effective collaborative multi-disciplinary working resulting in students developing sustainable skills
  • Evidence of raising standards to ensure all support for learning is good or outstanding
  • Evidence of continued quality improvement and the impact this has had on students
  • Experience of managing a team to ensure their effective deployment
  • Experience of highly effective multi-disciplinary working to ensure students positive transition into college
  • Experience of managing student’s transition out of college into positive destinations
  • Experience of safeguarding and safe learner concepts

Knowledge

  • A good understanding of the common inspection framework and what constitutes excellent teaching, learning and assessment
  • Knowledge of the needs of students with a range of learning difficulties and complex needs, demonstrating how and how these can be met and barriers to learning reduced
  • Have a good baseline knowledge of all disciplines at Bridge College and ability to demonstrate practical application, eg administration of medication, moving and handling etc
  • A thorough knowledge of person centred planning and how this can contribute to student support, curriculum design and implementation
  • A thorough understanding of safeguarding and safe learner concepts
  • The principles of performance management including conducting effective supervisions and appraisals
  • A robust understanding of assessment within learning
  • Skills
  • Ability to engage and motivate a diverse staff team through a range of initiatives
  • Good facilitator with a thorough understanding of how active support can promote independence
  • Effective use of SCIP or Positive Behaviour Management
  • Drive, energy, ambition, integrity And empathy
  • Ability to work across a diverse range of multi-disciplinary teams
  • Highly effective time management demonstrating ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Ability to follow through tasks to an agreed conclusion
  • Ability to manage difficult conversations to avoid escalation and find a positive resolution
  • Ability to problem solve and find positive solutions
  • Ability to work flexibly
