Voluntary Role
Job description

We're looking for one or more experienced people to help us create a brand new website so we can launch lots of exciting new projects throughout 2020 and 2021. We are a fully registered charity, run entirely by volunteers, with an incredible campaign ready to go.  We just need a new website and a new team of people who can help us deliver it.

After a few recent discussions, we've selected Laravel, the PHP Framework, as a suitable platform where we can develop our new website, so we're particularly interested in anyone with experience in PHP/MySQL and/or Laravel - or even someone with website development experience willing and able to learn Laravel quickly.

We outgrew our old website some years ago.  It was developed by one of our young trustees while they were studying and who learned as he went along.  We've been trying to come up with a replacement website design since then.

After a lot of false starts, over some years now, we’re still at square one. And we need help!

This is our mission statement :-

The Wisdom Trust delivers a wider awareness about the important issues affecting the future of our planet and about many other areas of interest as well; We make donations from our funds to support the work of other charitable organisations in communities all over the world and work with others to create better friendship, goodwill and understanding across all borders.

Briefly, our website is a part membership site where people get involved (completely free of charge) in lots of learning programs - both participating, contributing and editing (sharing Wisdom) and we raise funds through advertising and affiliate marketing. Then we donate funds every three months via an online vote of our members with every charity getting a share based on how many votes they get. Non-members can also get involved too, in a limited way.

The old website was written in PHP/HTML/MySQL and worked quite well but it's not responsive and won’t, as it is now, stand up to any kind of revamp to make it more user friendly or to add some new features we've been planning.  We think Laravel could be an appropriate platform to do this.

We ran some great events at venues like The House of Lords and hope to do so again. We have some great projects to get involved in both in the UK and overseas and plan to establish a brilliant new program called The League of Wisdom, but we can’t do anything really until the website is updated and secure - and responsive.

We're looking for someone who can share our vision to help make a difference in communities all over the world and who has the skills to put us back where we belong - online!! Although the coding on the existing website is uncommented, the website is fully specified on a trello account, with detailed page descriptions for every area within it and a library of relevant images too.  One of our volunteers has put together a great new front end design and that should be signed off in the next week or so.  Plus another of our volunteers has gone through all the data tables on the old system and created a brand new, updated, database dictionary into which we will upload all the data from the old website.  Once again that should be complete in the next week or two.  So we're very nearly ready to go with the back end work.

We have partnerships set up with all sorts of affiliate portals and are open to other ideas to raise funds through the website too.

Please contact us if you think you can help.  Thanks
