Job description

The Workers` Educational Association is a unique charity and the UK`s largest voluntary sector provider of adult education. With a clear vision and a strong social purpose, we bring great teaching to local communities, with life-changing courses held in clubs, pubs, workplaces, schools and almost anywhere else you can think of.

Since 1903, we have been giving disadvantaged people the opportunity to return to learning - inspiring them to realise their full potential and become active, engaged citizens. We see education as a tool for social justice, not just self-improvement, and we pride ourselves on making learning accessible.

The main purpose of this post is to provide choir support for students as part of a WEA`s approach to holistic, inclusive support for students which encourages independent learning in relation to personal development, empowerment, resilience and student engagement alongside academic achievement.
We are growing our panel of support workers to meet the needs of students in local classes and virtually through video conferencing who come to our courses with additional learning needs. You will ensure that students enjoy an outstanding experience and can participate fully and equally in our courses.

At the heart of our closely-knit area team, you will support tutors either within a classroom setting or virtually through video conferencing meeting and assessing new learners and supporting them to access WEA provision along with negotiating individual and group learning and support plans.

Every day will bring different yet exciting challenges.

Background information - The aim of the choir courses is to provide an introduction to choral singing in a variety of styles with the aim of performing at local events. Hoole WEA Community Choir is a non-auditioned group open to anybody who enjoys singing and would like to develop their skills. The choir course usually meets on Thursdays from 2.30 - 4.30 p.m. through the year.

You will need to be a friendly, organised person with good standards of reading and writing; someone who enjoys helping people with different needs.

Please provide a CV that includes your background and experience, plus a covering letter outlining locations you would be happy to work in as we would not expect anybody to be available to work in all the places across our area.
