Job description

This is a unique opportunity to join a new limited-life UK/Canadian granting organisation that funds in the areas of Early Childhood Education, the Environment and Seniors. As the sole UK-based employee, the Manager will be responsible for coordinating and managing most aspects of grantmaking in the UK. Beyond grantmaking, you will be responsible for managing our UK administrative functions. You will work in close partnership with Canadian-based colleagues to implement the Foundation’s strategy and report to the Director, Granting at the Canadian office. 

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the philanthropic landscape in the UK and experience working with a wide array of community organisations and stakeholders. You will be excited by the challenge of identifying where the Foundation can have the strongest impact during its limited lifespan and have experience managing a variety of operational tasks.  


This role will appeal to an experienced professional who is a self-starter and looking to expand their knowledge and impact in the philanthropic sector.   


Our office is located in Central London but the candidate will have the option to work from home for the majority of the week.


Specific responsibilities will include: 



  • In collaboration with Canada-based sector Leads, outreach to potential grantees and other key stakeholders within the Foundation’s funding areas to create the grant pipeline.  

  • Conduct research in the UK across the Foundation’s three areas of focus (ECE, Environment, Seniors) and keep up to date with developments within these areas to find new opportunities for granting.  

  • Oversee grant application process for UK grantees and participate in review of potential grants, including budgets and financial statements.  

  • Manage relationship with all current and future UK grantees. Monitor reporting and payment dates; review reports; and set up quarterly check-ins with grantees. 

  • Maintain up to date records for each UK grantee in Wizehive Grant Management Database. 



  • Working with the Executive Director in Canada, assist with preparation of UK office budget. Perform monthly budget reconciliation and provide quarterly and annual updates for the Board. 

  • Coordinate payment of invoices and grants. 

  • Liaise with UK accountant, lawyers, auditors and bank, in consultation with European-based Board Trustees. 



  • University graduate with experience in one of our three granting focus areas. 

  • Background in third sector with an established network of UK contacts.  

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator with ability to distil key points from written material and present ideas concisely. 

  • Self-driven with the ability and motivation to work alone. 

  • Financially literate – can read and understand a budget.  

  • Ability to travel within the UK and to Canada.
