Job Description

Time & Talents believes that everyone should feel part of a community, and that fun and friendships are key to ensuring people stay well, healthy, and happy. We're looking for an Older Men’s Projects Worker who will take the lead on our innovative programme to support older men, with social groups, information, and support in a range of local outreach venues, as well as our own buildings and gardens. You will take the lead on expanding Pub Clubs, our light-touch health and wellbeing outreach and socialisation groups in local pubs, and contribute to our Rotherhithe Shed, gardening and building projects, the Neighbourhood Care one-to-one support scheme, and volunteering programmes.

This role needs someone with the experience and ability to run highly informal groups which feel more like ‘gangs of friends’ than the health ‘interventions’ that put older men right off. Older men who attend T&T activities have described it as being like ‘a youth club for old blokes.’ Additionally, you’ll engage with other professionals to arrange their involvement, help the group steer itself, and promote the service to others. This is your opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older men in Southwark through the growth of grass-roots community action. In many ways, the role and the project will be shaped by whatever your talents, experience and drive to develop it, can bring.

In this role, you will:

  • Build friendly, welcoming groups for older men in unusual and highly informal environments
  • Devise and run creative, enjoyable activities in local pubs, cafes and other venues
  • Grow a network of peer volunteers to support the growth of the project – people who own and help deliver their own support
  • Provide support and signposting to those in difficulties
  • Organise and liaise with partners and stakeholders to keep the groups fresh and active

Alongside activities for the whole community, Time and Talents runs a range of groups, projects, and services for older people, increasingly with a peer-support focus. Last year, we worked with over 5,000 people from our local community, our older people’s groups with over 360, and our Pub Clubs worked with over 60 isolated older men. You’ll work alongside a team highly experienced in community development and support of older people, from a range of backgrounds including arts, culture, community organising, and health and social care.

To apply, please download the job description and person specification, and send:

  • A full CV outlining your previous experience
  • A letter of one page of A4, outlining what excites you about the role, and what experience you will bring to it, as soon as possible, and no later than midnight on 21 November, via this website

Salary: Up to £27,000 pro-rata (22.5hrs/ week) based on a 37.5 hour week, plus up to 5% employer matched pension contribution.

Hours: 22.5 hours/ week.
