Job Description

Family Nurse Partnership National Unit

120 Belsize Lane, London NW3 5BA

Communications Manager

Band 6: £36,429 – £41,630 (including London weighting)

Full-time: 37.5hrs per week

Fixed term until 31 March 2018

Family Nurse Partnership (FNP) is an evidence based, public health home visiting service delivered by specially trained nurses to vulnerable first time mothers and their babies. It aims to break the cycle of disadvantage, for example by improving young children’s health and development and reducing inequalities in school readiness and achievement.

The Family Nurse Partnership National Unit is responsible for leading the national development and quality improvement of the FNP programme in England. We have an ambitious, can-do and passionate team of around 25; and are part of a powerful consortium that brings together leading research, clinical and service development and commercial expertise from the Tavistock & Portman NHS Foundation Trust, venture philanthropy organisation Impetus-PEF and the Dartington Social Research Unit.

FNP is currently delivered in around 110 local authority areas.  Our vision is that every baby, child and young parent can thrive, fulfil their aspirations and contribute to society. We are about to start a major programme of adaptation and innovation, building on experience of delivering FNP in this country for eight years and over 30 years of international research. As we do this we want to be open and generate excitement about what we are doing; contribute to public debates about inequalities, prevention and early intervention and how to use good evidence well; and champion FNP families and practitioners, so their voices and their real life experiences can be heard.

Good communications will be vital to FNP and the National Unit over the coming years as we continue to raise our profile, increase our influence, secure financial support from local and national decision makers and engage well with key internal stakeholders during a time of significant change.

We are looking for an experienced communications professional to manage and deliver a broad range of communication activities for the FNP National Unit, taking responsibility for key elements of the communications strategy and communications channels. Fluent across multiple channels, we are looking for someone who can generate innovative ideas about how to promote the work of the FNP National Unit, raise our profile and tell our story.

Working as part of a small team of three, the postholder will play a crucial role in positioning the FNP National Unit in the public health and early intervention sectors, drawing on the voices of young parents, and on research and evidence from our services to influence policy makers, commissioners and funders, influential stakeholders and public opinion.

Candidates are requested to use the section "Supporting Information" on the application form to set out their reasons for applying and their suitability, referring to the person specification, for this post.
