Head of Finance, Central London – The Arts, up to £55,000

A well-established theatre based in Central London is looking for a new Head of Finance to join the team. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, this is an all-around role, responsible for all statutory and financial accounting, as well as producing the monthly management accounts and preparing the budgets/forecasts throughout the year. This position would be well suited to charity/arts technical accountants looking for a step into a more senior position, or auditors with PQE looking for a step into industry. You will also be responsible for 2 junior members of staff, so some team management experience would be desirable.  This is a great opportunity for qualified accountants to work for a beloved London arts organisation

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monthly management accounts preparation and reporting for the Development Team, Education and Community, Capital projects and Theatre Management.
  • Preparation of annual budgets and forecasts for the same budget holders
  • Liaison with the external auditors and management of the audit process for all entities
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements and narrative
  • Submissions to Companies House and The Charities Commission
  • Quarterly and Annual VAT return preparation and submission
  • Preparation of monthly financial accounting and group consolidation for all entities
  • Ownership of balance sheet accounts and completion of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Responsibility for accounting for restricted funds
  • Responsible for accurate posting of monthly payrolls
  • Ownership of the financial controls for transactions and accounting
  • Regular updating of financial controls documentation with stakeholders
  • Filing of tax returns – CT and supervision of PAYE
  • Supervision of pension filings
  • Ownership of the finance system and chart of accounts;
  • Act as superuser and provide training to new users;
  • Plan and manage the delivery of regular system updates

 

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) – Auditors must come with some PQE
  • Experience leading a small finance function
  • Strong technical accounting skillset
  • Experience of working in or with charities/arts orgs (in house or as an auditor)
  • Systems savvy – particularly with Sage/Dynamics
  • Keen to work directly with senior stakeholders and providing solid commercial support
  • Clear communicator, team player and a passion for theatre
