We would like to see disabled people and their families have an equal standard of living to non-disabled people. This Grants Specialist role is essential in supporting disabled households to access support by identifying and securing grant funding. The role also concentrates on providing expert guidance and support throughout the application process for grants.
Fixed term until March 2026, 35 hours per week.
Location: Working at Scope's Leeds office and working from home (hybrid)
In this role you will be:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Researching and identifying grant funding opportunities suitable for disabled households, with a focus on energy support and broader needs.
- Offering tailored advice and support to colleagues, ensuring they are equipped to identify and assist clients with grant applications.
- Creating and maintaining resources, such as guides and templates, to streamline the grant application process for colleagues and customers.
- Conducting training sessions for colleagues on identifying funding opportunities and supporting service users through the application process.
- Analysing feedback and engagement data from customers to refine and enhance the advice and support provided.
- Ensuring all information related to grant opportunities is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible to individuals with diverse needs.
- Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to maximize the reach and impact of grant funding support.
- Managing tasks and projects independently to contribute effectively to the team's goals, in line with the organisation’s commitment to equality and inclusion.
About You
- You will have strong experience in identifying and securing grant funding, preferably with a focus on support for disabled individuals or households. Demonstrated Skills in Training or education, particularly in a support or service context.
- You will play a pivotal role in data analysis to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the Energy Services.
- You will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal to be able to communicate difficult and complex information. A strong ability to convey complex information in an accessible way and engage diverse audiences.
- You will be skilled in research and information gathering, with a methodical approach to evaluating grant opportunities. Ability to respond positively to change while being able to work effectively with conflicting priorities.
- You will be highly organised with the capacity to manage multiple priorities when delivering training sessions and one-to-one support. A collaborative team player, capable of working effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- It is essential that you have a good working knowledge of IT including Microsoft Office Products. Excellent attention to detail when using databases and proficient in data analysis for service delivery improvement.
- You will bring drive and enthusiasm to your role and can demonstrate that you care passionately about improving the lives of disabled people and their families.

Our work reaches into the heart of the communities of Oxfordshire, and we’re pleased to be expanding our Community Engagement work into the areas of Cherwell and West Oxfordshire. The key towns in these areas are Banbury, Bicester, Kidlington, Witney, Carterton and Chipping Norton, including surrounding villages. Your role will be to set up peer-to-peer support groups, information days, befriending partnerships, and to be a point of contact for our work in the north and west of the county. Our mission is to support visually impaired people to live independent and active lives and you’ll be playing a key part in this.
Job Title: Community Engagement Worker (North and West)
Hours: 35 hours per week
Salary: £23,000 – £28,000 per year dependent on experience
Annual Leave: 25 days per year plus bank holidays (to increase after 3-years)
Contract Type: Permanent (6-month probationary period)

Base: Office/home-based with frequent travel across Cherwell and West Oxfordshire.

Job Purpose:
To support visually impaired people to live independent and active lives by providing a range of activities and groups across the north and west of Oxfordshire.
Duties:
- Setting up and supporting peer-to-peer support groups
- Holding information days within local libraries, community centres and other key locations
- Setting up walking groups as part of our Green Walks Project
- Demonstrating and setting up daily living equipment and assistive technology with support from the tech team
- Assisting in the setup of befriending partnerships alongside the Volunteer Coordinator
- Connect, share, and learn with partners and other organisations
- Being a point of contact for MyVision within the North and West of Oxfordshire
Other duties:
- Provide talks and training as needed
- Support the Fundraising team with local events and initiatives
- Keep accurate records of interactions and activites
- Attend relevant meetings, training, workshops, and webinars
- Support the team with furthering the objectives and goals of the organisation

Person Specification

Essential skills, experience, and knowledge:
- Experience of setting up community-based initiatives (for example: groups, clubs, activities etc)
- The ability to research, create and manage working relationships with local groups/organisations across Oxfordshire.
- Good IT skills
- Good communication skills in person, over the telephone and online
- The ability to travel around the county, whether with your own car, public transport or Access to Work support, please see below regarding Access to Work.
- Ideally located within or nearby Cherwell, West Oxfordshire, or Oxford city.
Desirable:
- Lived or learned experience of visual impairment
- Experience of working with visually impaired people
- Experience of providing community-based services for a disability charity

This role may suit someone with lived experience of sight loss, MyVision is a strong advocate of Lived Experience with over half of our employees having a visual impairment. The role would also suit someone who has strong communication skills and the ability to support, encourage and engage people. Volunteers are vital to our charity, the provide over 100,000 hours of support a year to our work. As our charity’s volunteer programme has grown over the last few years, we need to increase our capacity to recruit and better support our volunteers.
This role is focus on improving the support with give to our volunteers who care for our dogs and pups in training. There we are not just looking for someone who is experienced working with volunteers and is great with people, but someone who has presentation or teaching skills. So they can talk to groups of volunteers to help them develop the skills and confidence to have a positive experience and impact when volunteering with our charity. Candidate who have a good knowledge of dogs would be a real advantage.
Recruitment of new volunteers is also a key part of this role and so we will require the post holder to manage activity to achieve this, including some occasional weekend and evening work at specific recruitment events.
