About the role:
As an Outreach Worker, your role will be to assist your allocated young people in tasks that will enable them to live independently. This support will involve advice, general help and moral support, financial assistance (advice about bill payments etc) and working with young people on completion of education awards (AQA). You will be expected to work with multiple agencies to deliver holistic packages of support.
This role includes travelling to various locations to carry out support sessions with young people.
You will be expected to provide key work sessions for young people as per their placement agreement. These sessions are to be structured so that the young person can be assisted in accessing local resources, budgeting, and assisting them with gaining appropriate life skills. Using outcomes stars as a tool and completing the progress on the interactive website.
You will be expected to keep a diary of all contact with each young person and professional and to complete Outcomes Star reports on the young person which are sent to placing workers. These reports contain information about the young person and the work that has been completed with them. It highlights areas of need to help to focus key work.
It will be necessary to attend meetings such as child protection conferences, review meetings and other meetings that are deemed necessary in providing the high-quality service that is expected by local authorities and stakeholders and to ensure service delivery meets young people’s needs. You will be offered support if required when attending these meetings.

- UK driving license and use of a suitable and safe car for work, which is covered by business insurance.
- The ability to understand the needs of a young person and meet those needs through planning and assessment and an outcomes-led focus.
- Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours, maintenance of professional boundaries and ability to maintain positive working relationships.
- Experience of working with children/adolescents.
- Knowledge of Child Protection and Leaving Care Legislation.

What you will do:
In a specified geographical location, you will be responsible for reviewing the health and welfare of partnered dogs and providing ongoing training and instruction to partnerships. This vital role aims to maximise the assistance and support our dogs provide to our beneficiaries.
What we are looking for:
- Good knowledge of dog training and behaviour
- Ability to communicate at all levels with a wide range of people
- Good interpersonal skills
- Record keeping and report writing skills
- ICT skills (MS Office)
Some knowledge of canine health and welfare and an understanding of human medical conditions as they relate to the canine partnership may be advantageous, but not essential. Ideally, you may have some experience in providing training or coaching. Most importantly, you will be passionate about the transformative impact that our assistance dogs provide to our beneficiaries.

This role covers a specified geographical location in the Southwest of England - Cornwall and Devon. The hours are ad hoc, as and when required in line with our visit schedule. Visits are carried out by phone call, virtually (online via video call) and some travel will be required for face-to-face visits. It is essential that you have a driving licence and an appropriate vehicle for work purposes or the ability to travel in line with the requirements of the role.
As part of the onboarding process, you will be provided with training in the Devon/Cornwall area or in the Sussex/Surrey area for a minimum of 1 week.

Home-Start Stroud and Gloucester is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age. Volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown. Family Support Coordinators manage and supervise the support given by volunteers and work directly with families themselves. We also provide a wide range of group support for families (Best-Start, Bump-Start and Mothers in Mind) and specific support to dads/partners through our Dad Matters Gloucestershire Project.
Purposes of the job
- To maintain high standards of practice in supporting families within the Home-Start model and ethos.
- To ensure equality of opportunity, fairness and diversity in all aspects of the scheme’s work.
- To implement good safeguarding practice in all areas of work.
- To contribute to the effective day to day operation of the scheme in accordance with the Home-Start Memorandum & Articles of Association, Home-Start, Standards & Methods of Practice, Home-Start Agreement and Quality Assurance Standards.
Main Responsibilities
Support for families
- Receiving referrals and assessing needs of families across Stroud and Gloucester.
- Introducing families to appropriate support (such as signposting to specialist services or matching a family with volunteer support).
- Ensuring support to families is reviewed at regular intervals and at the end of Home-Start support, in line with current Home-Start guidance.
- Providing direct support to families when there are no volunteers available or where additional needs have been identified.
- Attending professional group meetings when necessary in order to support families and promote good working relationships with other agencies working alongside the family.
- To undertake designated responsibilities to safeguard and promote children’s welfare.
Managing Volunteers
- Recruiting, selecting and preparing suitable volunteers.
- Matching and introducing volunteers to families.
- Contribute as directed to the delivery of the Home-Start preparation course in full and to a high standard to all prospective volunteers
- Providing support, supervision and initial and on-going training opportunities for volunteers.
Supporting the work of the scheme
- Undertaking work as delegated by the Senior Coordinator to support the strategic management, development and future funding of the scheme.
- Supporting the implementation and review of all Home-Start policies and procedures.
- Complying with the scheme’s administration, monitoring and financial systems.
- Promoting the work of the scheme, as required by the Manager.
- Contributing to and supporting the development of the Home-Start network locally, regionally and nationally.
Working in Partnership
- Ensuring appropriate liaison with referrers and other professionals.
- Networking appropriately within the community.

Southend Supported Housing Services provides supported accommodation for individuals with medium to high mental health support needs. Hope Lodge is a 33 bed supported accommodation service in Southend on Sea. Century House has 6 flats, and Preston Road has 7 flats in Westcliff on Sea, with 3 independent flats in the local community. We provide 1:1 support, key working, peer support and group activities to encourage the people we support to move towards recovery and independence.
