Job description

Transform Justice is seeking an enthusiastic communications officer to play a vital role supporting its work to create a better UK justice system.

Who we are: Transform Justice is a national charity working for a fair, humane, open and effective justice system in England and Wales. We promote change by generating research and evidence to show how the system works and how it could be improved, and by influencing practitioners and politicians to make those changes. About the role: Transform Justice is seeking an enthusiastic communications officer to play a vital role supporting its work to create a better UK justice system. Working closely with our existing team of three, you will provide high quality communications and administrative support across various aspects of our work. In particular, you will work on our FairChecks campaign for criminal records reform and our exciting new CourtWatch London project, which invites volunteers to observe their local magistrates’ court and feed back on what they see. We are looking for someone flexible and organised, who is able to work on their own and take initiative. 


  • You will work remotely using your own equipment with regular travel to London for in-person meetings (travel will be reimbursed)
  • £28,000 salary
  • 2 year contract with possibility of extension
  • The successful candidate could also work 4 days a week, salary to be paid pro rata


Main responsibilities and duties:

  • Producing content for newsletters and social media

    • Drafting newsletters for various project mailing lists

    • Producing succinct social media copy, including story-based posts

    • Designing basic graphics and video content using Canva or alternative

    • Contributing ideas for paid social media ads

  • Long-form writing and editing assistance

    • Writing, editing and proofreading reports, briefings and submissions

    • Providing support for the drafting of funding applications

  • Providing administrative support

    • Organising meetings and assisting with podcast scheduling

    • Preparing and sending stakeholder correspondence

    • Inbox management for general and project enquiries 

    • Financial administration including invoicing and book-keeping

  • Other reasonable duties as required


Essential skills and experience:

  • Committed and driven to help achieve the aims of Transform Justice

  • At least one year of work experience in a communications or administrative role

  • Demonstrable experience using social media outside of personal use

  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to produce accurate work

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing and adapt tone based on audience

  • Ability to work remotely with little supervision and use initiative to achieve your objectives, seeking advice and support when needed

  • Flexible, willing and enthusiastic to work on a range of different projects and tasks  

  • Willingness to learn basic graphic design and editing (audio/video) if no previous experience


Desirable skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of criminology/criminal justice

  • Experience using graphic design software such as Canva or Adobe

  • Experience editing audio and video

  • Experience using Excel/Google Sheets

  • Familiarity with social media advertising and analytics
