Job description

Working as part of the TLG centre team in Reading, the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) post provides a unique opportunity to support young people experiencing educational crisis.

TLG Reading is a centre for alternative education provision delivering tailored social and educational interventions for young people. Working in partnership with The Gate, the HLTA will play an integral role in enabling young people to get their lives back on track, through delivering innovative programmes, and working with the Head of Centre and Classroom Teacher to ensure that the Education Centre achieves success.

The role involves assisting with the planning and delivery of lessons, leading sessions as timetabled and providing one-to-one and tailored learning support as appropriate, to bring excellence to the young people’s learning experience. As part of the TLG Centre team, this individual will play a key role in creating a ‘joined up’ approach to support pupils with a variety of needs including learning, behavioural, communication, social, sensory or physical difficulties and medical needs. The post holder will also act as a link between TLG’s students, their families and the church community.

We are looking to recruit an individual with a strong and vibrant Christian faith. TLG is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff including volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake a DBS check.

We would welcome applications from candidates from diverse backgrounds to enable us to better reflect the needs of the communities we serve.

Applications may be reviewed prior to the closing date. We reserve the right to interview and appoint prior to the closing date if a suitable applicant applies.
