Job description

TSSA represents people working in transport and travel. Our vision is to be a well organised and effective trade union where our members are at the heart of everything that we do. We are now involved in an ambitious growth project – our organising teams are focused on building bigger and stronger workplaces, where members have the power to challenge and create change, to ensure they are respected in their workplace and able to address inequalities.
Can you help us make our vision a reality? Then join our Organising team where we have vacancies in the North of England and in London.

Being an Organiser in TSSA – You will either be focusing on key priority transport companies including TfL, London Underground and Network Rail or/and leading on our innovative and progressive equality campaigns including our work to engage with and support LGBT+ and BAME workers. Through the application of strategic organising methods, you will drive membership growth and develop lay representatives to create sustainable active union workplaces where our members have the confidence to apply power and leverage to make a difference to everyone’s working lives. You will be responsible for coaching active members and will promote our equalities agenda in the workplace.

Do you have the skills we are looking for? - We are looking for talented and creative Organisers who are ready to be part of our progressive transport union and the opportunities that organising and bargaining in a new era of rail will bring. As a creative thinker you will be able to identify, plan and pursue organising and campaigning opportunities that achieve the strategic aims of TSSA. You will be able to identify and cultivate workplace leaders through your own strong interpersonal and leadership skills. You will be able to lead collective negotiations and challenge employers via the representation of members in pursuance of TSSA’s bargaining, organising and equality agenda.

In the current environmental, political and economic crisis that we are in, never has there been a more important and challenging time to play a part in creating change, drive social engagement and challenge discrimination via pro-active and positive campaigns in the public and private transport industry.
The office location for these roles is either York, Manchester or Liverpool St, London. All roles require travel across your region and will on occasion involve overnights stays.

TSSA Organisers starting salary is £41,323 plus London Weighting of £5,521 that can rise on an incremental scale to £50,736 plus LW over a period of five years.

TSSA offers all employees a generous annual leave entitlement and defined benefit pension scheme. TSSA is an equal opportunities employer striving to maintain and grow our diverse workplace community. We welcome applications from all sectors of the community. We are a family friendly employer and pro-actively support staff with disabilities. We are proud to be a Stonewall Diversity Champion and have just recently signed the Time to Change pledge.
