Job description

UKLGIG, the leading UK charity dedicated to providing support to vulnerable LGBTQI+ people who are seeking asylum in the UK, is recruiting an assistant role to support the whole team.

The Team Assistant will help ensure that our services run smoothly. You will be a first point of contact for vulnerable LGBTQI+ people and play a key role in providing the information they need. You will provide admin support to the whole UKLGIG team, including on communications and fundraising, and organise small events.

UKLGIG has been supporting LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration system and campaigning for their rights since 1993. In this role, you will gain insight into all aspects of our work, from service delivery to campaigning. You will have a varied workload from liaising with clients, assisting with communications and organising fundraising events.

You will:

  • Answer calls and emails and prioritise queries for responses
  • Give accurate information on the asylum system and UKLGIG services
  • Organise monthly meetings on making asylum and partnership applications (when face-to-face services resume)
  • Organise ad-hoc fundraising, policy and training events
  • Help deliver UKLGIG communications
  • Monitor developments in parliament related to the asylum system.

UKLGIG is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, and we welcome applications from all sections of the community. We will interview all applicants with disabilities who meet the essential criteria for this vacancy.

This is a full-time post for 35 hours per week but applications to work 28 hours per week will be considered.

Owing to the nature of the work with vulnerable adults, the successful applicant will be required to undergo a basic DBS check and to disclose all unspent criminal records at the point of conditional job offer.

UKLGIG’s offices are based in Borough, central London. All UKLGIG staff are currently working from home due to Covid-19. A mix of working at home and/or the office is likely for the foreseeable future.
