Accountable to: Student Voice Manager

Responsible for: Representation Student Staff, Democratic Volunteers and Community leads

 

Job Purpose

 

  1. Coordinate all student led representation related activity
  2. Support students and officers in relevant representation activity
  3. Contribute to the Student Voice Department’s strategic and operational planning

 

Key Responsibilities

1.         Coordinate all student led representation related activity

  • To work with University colleagues to support the development of the course representative system and delivery of training of reps.
  • Dealing with and responding to course representatives with issues and enquiries concerning representation and liaising with other Union and University staff and Student Officers as appropriate.
  • To work closely with Academic Registry in the recruitment and training of Student Panel Members for Internal Subject Reviews (ISR) and Course Validations.
  • To lead on the planning, preparation, delivery and financial management of the Academic Impact Awards, including the line management of student staff. 
  • To work with colleagues to provide effective briefings, de-briefings and support for Student Officers and student representatives at university committees and other relevant meetings.
  • Work with the Student Voice Manager to engage internal and external groups in enhancement and improvement of student representation. Working with relevant University departments to ensure the student voice is heard.
  • To assist in preparing the contents of reports, handbooks and other relevant publications to enable university staff, committees, and student representatives and officers to work effectively.
  • To work with the Student Voice Manager to co-deliver and administrate all Union Elections.
  • To ensure that the Union’s governance structures are fit for purpose, help make effective decisions and engage the Union’s membership.
  • Assist Senior Management in developing and implementing union policies and procedures for delivery of services to students.
  • To manage and lead on the delivery of Union democratic meetings (AGM’s & EGM’s).
  • Facilitate motions which come from Student Council & the AGM, acting as the Students first point of contact for coordinating a campaign and working with relevant Union staff to support this.
  • To manage all Communities and act as their first point of contact for support in their Community meetings and Student Council.
  • To assist the Student Voice Manager in the re-writing and editing of the Bye-Laws.

2.         Support students and officers in relevant representation activity

  • Advise the Student Officers in order to support their team and remit priorities so that they can make effective decisions, and supporting them to solve problems when issues arise. 
  • Dealing with and responding to course representatives with issues and enquiries concerning representation and liaising with other Union and University staff and Student Officers as appropriate.
  • To co-deliver training for Student Council members and the Independent Chair so that they are able to run effective meetings.
  • To provide training to Student Officers and Student Community members so they are able to make effective decisions
  • To maintain regular contact with student committees and support external communications where needed.

3.         Contribute to the Student Voice Department’s strategic and operational planning

  • Support the delivery of the Union strategic plan, by aligning representation activity with the vision and strategic goals.
  • Ensure effective performance against budgetary targets, strategic and business planning objectives and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Support development of representation strategy and feed into the union planning process
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and officers across the union to grow and develop representation
  • Develop the representation department through student engagement mechanisms and democratic structures.
  • To research, write and submit funding requests for the representation department’s Block Grant to the University SMT.
  • To contribute to appropriate sections of the Union website in order to effectively communicate with the membership.
  • Facilitate the communication of activities supported by the department and ensure effective promotion of successes.
