One of the most exciting leadership roles in the sector, the Director of Development & Alumni Relations of the United Arab Emirates University will have the unique opportunity to build and lead the institution’s philanthropic fundraising.

The United Arab Emirates University is the first and foremost national university in the United Arab Emirates. Founded in 1976 by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, it is the UAE’s flagship university, modern in its outlook and architecture and open to the world, friendly and yet academically demanding.

Earlier this year, the University Council agreed an ambitious and exciting strategy with the aim of providing ‘the best education in the world’; goals have been established to guide a transformation journey that is inclusive, forward-looking and evident.

Core to achieving these strategic goals is the development of new income streams and, in particular, philanthropic income.  To this end, UARU has created the new position of Director of Development & Alumni Relations to build and deliver a philanthropic fundraising and alumni relations programme, embedding a culture of philanthropy within the University.

The position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor and will work closely with the Chancellor, who is personally highly committed to the success of this position, as well as key stakeholders across the University. Working collaboratively and confidently with the senior leadership of the University, your mission will be to develop and implement the University’s first fundraising and alumni relations strategy, embedding a culture of philanthropy within the University.

The Director of Development & Alumni Relations will be pivotal to this intensive and exciting period, helping to ensure that the University meets its strategic objectives.  The postholder will have a transformational impact on the University’s fundraising ability and in so doing, play a crucial role in enabling it to affect a step change in its capability to attract philanthropic funding and engage powerfully with its alumni and non-alumni stakeholders globally.

We seek an outstanding major gifts fundraiser who has the approach and drive to establish and lead the University’s fundraising and alumni relations strategy, delivering those donors able to give on a transformative scale.  The University is looking to make a step change and this role is key to the achievement of this.

The successful candidate will be an exceptional leader but equally able to be hands-on.  They will need to be a self-starter, entrepreneurial and highly adaptable, able to build collaborative and effective relationships internally and externally.  They will be expected to build a team and create an atmosphere in which clear vision and objectives motivate and inspire staff and colleagues.
