The UKMT exists to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics.  We do this by working with hundreds of volunteers across the UK to organise Challenges promoting problem solving and teamwork and other mathematical enrichment activities.

About your role

You will be a key part of the delivery of the UKMT’s activities. Every year these engage thousands of students and schools across the UK and overseas. You will work directly on specific activities and support the team by working closely with our incredible volunteers and supporters, providing excellent stewardship and communications, as well as being the first port of call for general and financial enquiries from our supporters. You will need to communicate effectively with people at all levels and have strong interpersonal skills.

You will need to be flexible and responsive to changing demands of the UKMT and developments in our strategy and activities to meet stakeholder expectations.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Teams & Enrichment Senior Coordinator in delivering administrative tasks and communications across multiple channels for all related activities, including mentoring, summer schools and Team Challenges.

  • Ensuring great supporter care is delivered at all times by handling enquiries via phone, email, social media and our website.

  • Importing income data on the UKMT website, and entering sales invoice payments on the website including under/overpayments and duplicates

  • Downloading bank statements, solving problems with unidentified payments and unpaid invoices, and ensuring outgoing payments are made in a timely manner, with copies of invoices and receipts imported to the accounting software.

  • Liaising with our accountants, auditors and other relevant parties on a regular basis to ensure our financial records are up to date and they have everything they need from us in a timely manner.

  • Calculating and processing royalty payments on an annual basis for authors of UKMT publications.

  • Ensuring accurate, orderly and timely filing in accordance with UKMT policies and procedures.

  • Delivering excellent stewardship and support for volunteers.

  • Attending conferences, events and executive committee meetings, which will include weekends and evenings as appropriate.

  • Ensure policies are adhered to at all times when carrying out your work, in particular but not limited to Child Protection policy, Data Protection policy and Health and Safety policy.

Person Specification


  • Effective organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage your own workload independently on a day to day basis and to meet tight deadlines.

  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to solve problems and communicate with people across all levels of the organisation and general public

  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Excellent numeracy skills

  • The ability to deliver marketing and communications using multiple platforms and channels.

  • The ability to analyse working processes and seek to drive improvement, including increasing the use of technology to increase efficiency

  • The ability to gain knowledge in a new role quickly and show dedication to the work that you are doing.

  • A passion and enthusiasm for the Trust’s aims with the ability to lead others in their pursuit.

  • An understanding of key policies which are important to the Trust, such as Safeguarding and GDPR.


  • An interest in education and/or Mathematics

  • Experience of using Xero, Sage or other accounting software
