Job description

This is a unique opportunity to lead a Data and Supporter Insight team that underpins the success of one of the most exciting and ambitious UK Higher Education fundraising and volunteering campaigns.

For more than a century, the University of Birmingham has been challenging and developing great minds, through outstanding teaching and world-leading research. With deep roots in our local community as well as our global reach, our students, alumni, academics and staff have continually pushed forward the boundaries of knowledge, broken new ground, and made a positive impact on people’s lives.

In 2019 we launched the ambitious Birmingham In Action campaign, which commits to raising over £600 million of charitable funding and achieving 1.25 million volunteer hours, positioning the University as one of the world leaders in university development.  Our dynamite Data and Supporter Insight team is fundamental in helping us to achieve this, and we are now looking for a talented person to join us and drive this area.

As our new Associate Director of Development Services, you will lead three key areas of our work – Data and Insight, Prospect Research, and Philanthropic Finance.  You will work closely with key colleagues across our IT and Legal Services, Procurement and Finance teams, ensuring that our infrastructure of systems, practices, polices and processes are optimised and leveraged effectively.  You will also play a key role in our Senior Leadership Team, bringing rigour, a fresh perspective, and knowledge of best practice, trends and insights in fundraising, to ensure the success of our team and campaign.  Your ability to think and act strategically and tactically, build solid, positive relationships across large and complex organisations, and get the best out of the people around you, will be key to success in this role.

In return, you’ll get to work with a group of passionate, creative and dynamic people who are committed to supporting each other and the communities we serve.  If you are attracted by the scale of our ambition, the excellence of our campaign and the opportunity to play a very big part in making our plans a reality, we’d like to hear from you.
