Job description

The Students’ Union is a democratic charity, meaning that we are led by our members – over 40,000 students at the University of Manchester.  This vital role ensures that the Students’ Union is empowering students and student representatives to have a strong voice and make change in the organisation. The Democratic Engagement Coordinator is the operational lead on student democratic governance and procedures, helping to ensure that the Union runs as a democratic, member-led organisation. This includes running our student elections, facilitating student decision making, supporting students to develop and implement policies for the Union, and ensuring elected student leaders (officers) are transparent and accountable to the student body.

The Democratic Engagement Coordinator sits in the Liberation, Campaigns and Democracy team at the Students’ Union. This dynamic, exciting team provides the platform for University of Manchester students to make real change, whether as activists, elected officers, or students just looking to help improve things for themselves and their peers. We’re about to enter an exciting time as a team as we embark on a democracy review and look for a creative new democratic structure that meets the needs of a modern student body. We’re looking for someone who can help us to bring students to the heart of all Students’ Union decisions, and challenge us to find more innovative, inspiring ways to run as a democratic organisation
