Job description

The CEO will lead UpRising, taking overall financial and managerial responsibility as the internal and external face of the organisation. They will be responsible for identifying and implementing development strategies, stewarding our resources, fund raising and ensuring that UpRising continues to be effective and sustainable in our work with young people.

Reports to: Chair & Board of Trustees



  • Work with Trustees and Senior Management Team to ensure an effective fundraising and operational strategy is in place to deliver the organisation’s mission. 

Income Generation

  • Take overall responsibility for fundraising and the ongoing development of a sustainable business model – with specific responsibility for monitoring the overall budget. 
  • Work alongside Head of Development on the delivery of a fundraising plan to ensure diverse and sustainable revenue streams (including via grants, corporate sponsorship, local stakeholder investment, alumni and individual giving). 

Business Model

  • Lead the ongoing evolution of the UpRising delivery and replication model. 
  • Grow our social franchising model and other earned income streams (to sit alongside traditional direct delivery).

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the external face for UpRising, developing and managing key national relationships. 
  • Manage key partnerships with funders, corporate supporters and public sector bodies.
  • Work alongside leadership team and local managers to ensure effective regional and local stakeholder management.


  • Work with the Senior Management Team to ensure effective staff management and delivery of programmes, devolved budget management, and impact and evaluation in each of our locations.


  • Ensure that UpRising maintains and continues to build a strong brand and reputation across all sectors. 
  • Attend key internal and external events and articulate UpRising views and experience regarding participation, diversity and inclusion.


  • Work with the Chair to enable the Trustees to fulfil their duties and legal responsibilities, including responsibility for risk register.

General Responsibilities

  • Be proactive in keeping up to date with developments affecting your work and maintain and improve personal competence through continuous professional development. 
  • Take direction on projects and priorities from Trustees, which may vary from time to time. 
  • Abide by all organisational policies, codes of conduct and practice.
