Job description

Usher Kids UK exists to empower children, young people and their families living with Usher syndrome  - a rare cause of progressive deafblindness. The Board of Usher Kids UK is seeking its first Chief Executive Officer to take the charity forward at this pivotal stage in it's journey.

About the charity

From the point of diagnosis onwards Usher Kids UK provides information, support and resources tailored to the specific and unique challenges of the condition. We create opportunities for families to connect and learn at virtual and in-person events, helping them build friendships, skills and confidence for the journey ahead. Our services are already changing the experiences and outcomes of the next generation: "Our daughter came back from Usher Kids UK summer camp absolutely buzzing - she was confident, proud and talked with excitement about how she is unique". We want to ensure every family living with Usher syndrome has access to this life-changing impact.

Main purpose of this role

Our CEO will have the opportunity to deliver tangible impact for our community from day one, by embedding and professionalising our current programme of services, whilst also identifying opportunities and priorities to shape our longer term strategy.

Our ideal candidate

To be successful in this role, it goes without saying that you’ll be a passionate advocate, ready to embody and communicate the values of our organisation. You will be motivated by the opportunity to lead a newly registered charity: growing and developing our team whilst establishing systems and processes which take our organisation to the next level. Building effective and positive partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders (including funders and collaborators) will be key to your success. Experience of management and service delivery in the third sector is important, alongside enthusiastic commitment to learn from and champion our wonderful community of children, young people and their families.

If this sounds like you we would like to hear from you.

Full details of duties, responsibilities and our person specification for this role are available in the recruitment pack, which you can access prior to applying.

Application Instructions

To apply, please submit your CV plus a covering letter (no more than 2 pages) which sets out why you think you are the right candidate for this role. Please provide evidence and examples which demonstrate how your skills meet the criteria set out in our recruitment pack, along with contact details for two referees.

If you would prefer to submit a video (no more than 2 minutes) instead of a covering letter, please make this clear in your application and we will be in touch with you. If you have other access needs or require reasonable adjustments as part of the recruitment process, please let us know.

We require all applicants to have the appropriate right to work in the UK.

This role will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure check.
