Versus Arthritis is the UK's largest charity dedicated to supporting people with arthritis. We pride ourselves on cultivating a society that creates change and gives strength to people living with arthritis and related conditions in the UK.

We are recruiting a 12 month maternity cover for our Young People and Families Service Coordinator role based in South Wales. We are looking for a passionate, motivated and enthusiastic individual to help deliver our support service for children and young people living with arthritis in South Wales and across the UK.

Our work provides emotional and social support - with the aim of helping young people to take control of their condition, feel better connected and live happier and healthier lives now and in the future. The service is designed by, and for, young people and is delivered by both staff and volunteers.

About the role

The Coordinator will work with a wide range of stakeholders - including young people, healthcare and education professionals, partners and volunteers. Together we develop, deliver and evaluate quality face-to-face and virtual events (including residentials) as well as one to one support on a range of holistic topics - empowering children and young people to live well with arthritis and feel prepared for transition to adult healthcare and life.

The Coordinator will work with colleagues in the UK Young People and Families Service (YPFS) team to share learning from work in South Wales and improve support for young people with arthritis across the UK. The Coordinator will work with colleagues in the Wales team to understand the local context and support offer, as well as in partnership with the Multi Disciplinary Juvenile Arthritis Paediatric clinic team based at University Hospital Wales (UHW) Cardiff and outreach services across South Wales.

The working week will be varied, and you will need to be adept at switching between multi-disciplinary team meetings in a hospital, remote one to one support for parents, offering advice to school professionals and co-delivering youth events with volunteers.

Due to the nature of our services, a willingness for evening and weekend working (including occasional overnight stays) will be required. The role will require frequent travel across South Wales and occasional travel to other parts of Wales and the UK, requiring access to transport.

Key requirements

To be successful in the role, you will be committed to Versus Arthritis values and behaviours as well as having:

  • Experience of, and a passion for, working with young people to provide a quality, empowering and safe service.
  • Experience of excellent relationships management with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working with volunteers, including young volunteers.
  • Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating services/activities with children, young people and families.

How to apply

To apply you MUST submit:?

  1. A completed application form, clearly demonstrating how you meet the key requirements and competencies set out in the job description and person specification for the role of Young People and Families Service Co-ordinator - South Wales
  2. Please include where you've seen this role advertised.

Email your completed application by 9am Monday 13th December 2021.

Interviews expected: To be confirmed in January - either at the Versus Arthritis Wales Office in Cardiff or remotely by Microsoft Teams.
