deafPLUS is a charity which supports integration and equality between deaf and hearing people in all areas of life. We provide a range of services from Advocacy to Employment, equipment to information and advice across 7 centres around the UK, as well as a national advice service.
A very exciting job opportunity has arisen - the role of Independent Living Coordinator with our Personal Assistant service, Youchoose.
This roles focusses on the delivery of deafPLUS’ Direct Payments Support Service. This is a scheme which enables people to receive money from the Council to pay for the care and support that they have been assessed as needing, and really puts individuals in control of decisions about the best way they can be supported.
The Independent Living Coordinator will be responsible for account management, delivering support, information, advice and assistance to enable people with a sensory disability to access and manage Direct Payments easily and effectively. The post-holder will work as part of a team to promote, extend and develop the scheme to enable more people to have personal budgets and self-direct their support.
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the health and social care sector, particularly in relation to individualised budgets. Good communication and presentation skills as well as high levels of literacy, numeracy and IT skills are essential. Knowledge of the Direct Payments scheme will be an advantage, although full training will be provided.
The benefits of working for us include 25 days (pro rata) annual leave, 8 Bank holidays (pro rata) and Festive closures and opportunities for training and professional development towards becoming a Registered Manager. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
