About the role: 

As a Visits Family Engagement Worker, you will ensure the delivery and continued development of consistently high quality, cost-effective and responsive services, grounded in pact’s charitable mission, vision and values. Working within Pact’s mission, vision and values, and within NOMS/ HM Prison Service rules and regulations, the post holder will be responsible for delivering a front line family support service to families affected by imprisonment. This will combine a casework-based approach with delivery of programmes and courses, and a signposting and advice service for families and men in custody. 

For many children, visiting a prison can be a difficult and an emotionally charged experience. Part of this role will ensure that a warm and welcoming environment is provided for children, ensuring that their visit is as comfortable as possible. This will involve the daily organising of safe and high-quality play facilities and age-appropriate activities for children visiting HMP Cardiff, both within the Visits Centre and in the prison visiting hall. This role will also play a vital role in ensuring safeguarding procedures are adhered to and promoted. 

About you: 

To be successful in this role you will have a relevant degree level / professional qualification in social care or equivalent, or relevant experience. You will be required to hold a level 2 qualification in childcare (or equivalent) and to have had previous experience of working with families and disadvantage groups in a multi-agency environment. You will be friendly and able to relate sensitively to prisoners and their families whilst demonstrating experience of delivering front line services and working as part of a team. 

Experience of working with volunteers is desirable, as is having a significant amount of experience in play work with children and knowledge of how carrying out risk assessments in a childcare setting. Excellent communication skills are required, and you must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in partnership with a range of agencies, at both strategic and operational service delivery level.
