VIY Programme Director (West Midlands/Midlands)
About Volunteer It Yourself (VIY)
VIY combines volunteering and DIY by challenging young people aged 14-24 to learn trade and building skills, on the job, by helping to refurbish and transform youth and community facilities in need of essential improvements (e.g. youth clubs, community centres, sports clubs, and arts, music and cultural venues).
The majority of young people who take part and benefit are disengaged or excluded from mainstream education and training, at risk of disengagement, and/or unemployed.
VIY participants are mentored by professional tradespeople and gain vocational skills accreditations as well as access to further training, work placement and apprenticeship opportunities with local providers and employers beyond the project.
VIY launched in 2011 and, to date, over 650 youth and community buildings across England and Wales have been repaired/refurbished, involving 12,000 young people and 1,100 trade skills mentors, with 4,500 young people gaining a City & Guilds accreditation.
VIY is scaling rapidly, reaching and benefitting even more young people and communities with the support of our partners, including Travis Perkins, Dulux, Local Authorities, City Councils, GLA, Sport England, Postcode Lottery, Youth Futures Foundation and other grant funders and commissioners. As such, we are now looking for a driven and ambitious Programme Director to join the Senior Leadership team at this exciting stage.
VIY is fast moving and challenging and this role will require energy, determination and flexibility.
Sport England has invested in VIY to refurbish 225 community spaces used for the provision of sport and physical activity. We are looking for a Programme Director to take on overall responsibility for leading the Sport Programme delivery team. The Programme Director will manage the team responsible for all sports-related projects, ensuring that each project, and the programme overall, is delivered to a high standard and that company-wide delivery-based KPIs are met.
Whilst primarily responsible for the sports programme of work, the Programme Director may be asked to manage at various points non-sport related work, in recognition of our expanding portfolio of clients and sectors.
The West Midlands is a priority area for us, with the potential for significant growth with new and existing partners. We are therefore looking for an individual who is based within the West Midlands, or is able to easily (and regularly) travel across the region. The Programme Director will be VIY’s senior-lead in the region, and with the Senior Leadership team, will be responsible for identifying new business opportunities, growing and deepening partnerships across the region.
The right candidate will be an organised and passionate person with a proactive, hands-on attitude and the ability to cultivate relationships, motivate and influence people both internally and externally and generate new business/develop new partnerships, whilst supporting and managing the programme delivery team.
This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to be at the forefront of a rapidly growing and dynamic organisation, changing the lives of young people and positively impacting on communities.
