Job Purpose:
The post holder will play a pivotal role in the strategic and operational development of the charity with particular responsibility for the charity operations, people and retail functions to ensure they are carried out efficiently and effectively and comply fully with all aspects of charity law and good practice.
A senior leadership team member, this role will lead Alder Hey Children’s Charity’s Retail Strategy, developing a plan for opening of new Charity Shops and growing online sales. They will also lead on the People Strategy for the Charity and Retail teams.

Main Duties/Tasks

Operations
Provide leadership and direction to the Operations & People Manager, empowering them & the team to deliver against set goals and objectives.
Oversee health & safety across the charity, ensuring that the team have appropriate processes, practices and policies in place to comply with the law and ensure our team have a good working environment.
Oversee the management of Estates & Facilities across the charity premises, including asset management, ensuring that these are in line with our values, the legal requirements, and look at ways that innovation can help us to improve within these areas.
Oversee the insurance renewal process (for the charity and retail shops).
Oversee processes & practices in relation to donor stewardship, ensuring the team are providing an excellent donor journey and donations are processed efficiently and effectively.
To formulate and propose policies and ensure that existing policies are updated in accordance with the agreed timetable.
People
Develop and execute the Charity People Strategy for both staff and volunteers.

Role Purpose
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced project manager to support the Head of United for Wildlife (UfW) as well as the Taskforce Managers in the management and implementation of key projects. With a proven ability to undertake the day-to-day monitoring of projects, activities and deliverables, you will be comfortable prioritising workloads and projects, working independently and be a confident communicator.

The main purpose of the role will be to coordinate bids that are effective, well costed, realistic and in line business needs and values, and that we are suitably placed to participate effectively in key partnerships nationally, regionally and locally to ensure that we are able to embed in business areas and build effective partnerships for collaborative larger bids.
Main duties
- Undertake horizon scanning with the leads of the business development areas to ensure we understand key opportunities and are embedded in key partnerships at a national and local level.
- Work with colleagues on a joined up business development approach to secure new business and contracts
- Increase the number, range, and value of contracts secured in line with our strategic objectives
- Build and maintain a range of relevant partnerships to support the winning of new business
- Maintain up to date market and academic research available on the CRM and other systems within the team
- Develop and conduct effective business pitches to key decision makers and ensure that they are kept relevant by relevant reviews and updates
- Manage the bid writing team, oversee and strengthen our current funding operations
- Build on the existing portfolio of funding, which includes statutory and commercial tenders, as well as grant funding
- Ensure existing funding relationships are positively maintained, and relationships with commissioners are effectively managed, undertaking high-level representation when required
- Lead on the preparation of major funding proposals
- Track and report on external fundraising trends and help teams match opportunities with strategic priorities
- Proactively manage the organisational funding pipeline of opportunities and rolling submissions, as a tool for planning and decision-making
- Ensure funding perspectives are integrated into programme-level strategic plans
- Support the organisation to realise its income targets
- Inspire and manage the bid writing team so that they are motivated, flexible and collaborative in their approach
- Cultivate relationships with programme leads and support them to develop new projects and services with appropriate funding strategies; Achieve quality proposal submissions, including sign-off responsibility
- Ensure effective grant management
- To provide overall strategic guidance and leadership of approaches to the development of new business across a range of stakeholders internally and externally. Ensuring that staff working in these business development areas are aware of our values and principles about this work and linked into best practice groups that help them to develop their skills, both internally and externally.
- Ensure evaluation and insight is used effectively in reporting internally, to funders, partners and to stakeholders
- Maintain an in-depth, up-to-date knowledge of the key policy areas relevant to our work, including work across all of our delivery areas and ensure an up to date knowledge of funding issues, patterns and opportunities.

- Previous experience of working in community development and previous experience of delivering high quality interventions, ideally in deprived community settings.
- Experience of line- managing and developing teams to deliver against programme objectives and to achieve their full potential, preferably in the field of community development work.
- Experience of influencing and matrix management would be preferable
- Leadership ability, with the confidence and skill to influence and persuade others across multiple disciplines and arenas.

- Experience of working with a range of stakeholders with the ability to influence and persuade others

The BHMA operates as a remote team however the hub is in the Bath/Bristol area with our AGM & a conference to be held near Bristol in 2024. We have 2-3 evening Zoom meetings per month and our remote administrator works mornings.

About the role
Working closely with the Service Director as a member of the Senior Management Team, the Head of Wellbeing and Community Support Service will lead and promote the Wellbeing and Holistic support of staff, volunteers, service users and those close to them, as well as leading local community engagement initiatives and innovations supporting national agenda.
Through their oversight of community engagement, support for service users and families, volunteering and staff and volunteer wellbeing, they will provide strategic oversight of support provided to ensure the charity builds links with local communities to shape services and ways of working that meet the changing needs of those supported in the local community.
Through their experience in either counselling, palliative social work or psychiatry, they will also work with the local MDT to help provide guidance and advice when reviewing patient cases and referrals. They will also be available to provide support with individual crisis or complex patient management where their skills can be used for short term interventions or to identify the most appropriate support for the individual and their families where needed.
About you
You should be an accredited counsellor, social worker or psychiatry professional with experience of working in a healthcare, social care or public health related discipline, working across a multi-disciplinary team.
Additionally, you will need to demonstrate:
- Significant experience working at a Senior Management level in a healthcare/social care environment to include a proven track record in the strategic development of new services.
- Experience of scoping gaps in services in local areas and developing and managing support services in a community setting to fill these gaps.
- Evidence of setting SMART outcomes and measuring impact against those outcomes
- Demonstrable experience delivering supervision for staff and volunteers outside of normal line management.
- Experience of working with a range of diverse communities, developing long term community relationships with local healthcare providers and influential members of the local community.
- Knowledge and experience of safeguarding
- Experience of managing teams and budgets to include volunteering services
