Job description
Operations Manager
Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire

About Us

Welwyn Hatfield Women's Refuge and Support Services (WHWR) is a vital resource for women and families in Welwyn Garden City and Hatfield, offering a safe haven away from domestic violence and abuse.

We provide ensuite bedrooms to women and children for up to four months at a time to enable a break from their situation or to allow them to start building a new life away from an abusive or violent relationship or home environment.

Our refuge is a private, secure women and children only space. We collect residents from an agreed location and bring them to the refuge to ensure that abusive partners or family members cannot know where they are. Once safe, we provide accommodation, practical and emotional support and help with benefits, schooling and even healthcare to make sure that our residents view their time with us as positive and affirming.

We are currently looking for an Operations Manager to join us on a part-time basis, working 30 hours per week.

The Benefits

- Salary of £32,029 pro rata
- Develop your career with a forward-thinking organisation
- Support the success of services that are transforming the lives of women and children

If you have previous experience of working in a women’s refuge and a great leadership style, this is an exciting opportunity to take on a senior-level role where you can make a real difference.

You will have the chance to drive the success of services that empower and support women to live the lives they choose, free from the threat of domestic violence.

Our environment is open, friendly and supportive with a focus on working together, collaborating as a family and providing the best, most comprehensive support possible. If you think you’d thrive as part of our passionate team, we’d love to hear from you.

In this important role, you’ll manage all aspects of our service delivery, including co-ordinating admissions, monitoring ongoing work, managing the on-call rota and day-to-day housing management.

Additionally, you will:

- Implement health and safety, safeguarding, data protection and complaints policies and procedures
- Take responsibility for the management and maintenance of our buildings and equipment
- Oversee the management and co-ordination of volunteers’ recruitment, training, placement, supervision and developmental needs
- Manage the distribution of workloads during staff absence
- Support the preparation of our evaluation and monitoring reports

About You

To join us as our Operations Manager, you will need:

- Experience of working in a women’s refuge
- Team leadership and line management experience (both staff and volunteers)

- A degree or professional qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent) experience
- A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle

Please note, it is WHWR’s policy that applicants should have objective distance in their work and not have been service users of WHWR or other domestic abuse services within the five years prior to their application.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check and open to women only. (Exempt under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9, Part 1).
