Working Well is an employment charity working mainly in the East End of London. Our projects share the aim of improving the lives of those with mental health, learning disabilities and autism through training and employment.
We are a recruiting a Project Co-ordinator for a project (London Work Resource) funded by the Trust for London and delivered with the London and South East Network for Job Retention and the Centre for Mental health. The London Work Resource has been set up in response to a burgeoning awareness that low pay is a serious problem, with 1 in 5 employees in the capital earning below the London Living Wage. The project will generate robust research evidence ‘’of what works’’ to improve the earning prospects for low-wage workers and will also benchmark best practice across a range of stakeholders, including employers, to promote better work for disadvantaged workers.
Purpose of the role
The London Work Resource Project Co-ordinator will research, test and evaluate best practice models of career progression to increase the earning prospects of low paid workers with mental health support needs. As the role will entail designing and delivering high-impact research and managing different project work streams, we are looking for someone with strong research and project co-ordination skills, with excellent organisational skills and a strong interest in promoting better work for disadvantaged people. In this busy role, it is important to be able to balance multiple priorities, devise work plans, mobilise plans into deliverable actions and develop strong working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
Scope of the role
The postholder will undertake the following duties:
- Manage different project work streams and undertake co-ordination tasks
- Devise detailed project plans, translate plans into deliverable actions and set key timeframes
- Design task-specific research activities and undertake primary data collection and analysis
- Effectively communicate and disseminate findings internally and externally
- Identify key barriers preventing career progression & evaluate existing career progression models by drawing out what works (or doesn’t)
- Research, test and evaluate best practice models of career progression and employer engagement
- Support employers and human resources professionals to implement systems and practices which best enable career progression for low waged workers
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with employers, HR departments, job retention network members, occupational health and trade unions
- Test models of support with Retention Network providers
The post will normally be based in our office in Bethnal Green although it will also include meetings with employers, clients and other providers across London. Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic the post will be initially home based with online and phone meetings replacing face to face meetings.
Staff benefits include an employer contribution to a personal or workplace pension equivalent to 6% of gross salary. 30 days annual leave plus paid public holidays (pro rata).
