Job description


Working closely with the Communications Manager and Head of Communications, the main purpose of this role is to build engagement with the WHA membership and NOhep supporter bases. Key areas include liaising with WHA members and NOhep supporters to develop engaging content. Creating and delivering social media plans, implementing online and offline activities including events, blogs and press releases. 




Reports to: Communications Manager 



1 Engagement and Campaigning Planning, Development and Implementation


• Work effectively with Communications Manager to develop a yearly engagement strategy  

• Support the development and delivery of impactful and successful campaigns including World Hepatitis Day and NOhep

• Use analytics to assess effectiveness of campaigns on a regular basis and use feedback to build the movement

• Provide content for WHA reports and magazines 


2     Media Strategy and Delivery


• Seek out  promotion opportunities 

• Identify and engage key influencers and celebrities 

• Design and implement engaging digital campaigns

• Manage social media channels including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram 

• Develop a calendar of events and awareness days

• Draft media releases and handle media enquiries 

• Support national and international media sell-in for placing news stories and features

• Maximise the potential of SEO and AdWords to drive traffic to the websites

• Ensure the website is up-to-date and effective






3        Material development


• Source and create original content to raise awareness, including writing articles, blog posts, news articles

• Create and distribute high quality materials (both digital and hard copy)

• Lead video and other content development projects

• Brief and manage third-party suppliers


4       Events and Conferences 


• Identify opportunities for promotion at international events 

• Ensure relevant materials are included where possible 

• Project manage exhibition spaces when applicable  

• Secure speaking opportunities and produce speaker briefings 


5         Stakeholder Communications


• Maintain and build the WHA and NOhep supporter base

• Regularly engage with the supporter base to keep up-to-date with news to share with key stakeholders

• Support the development of regular newsletters 

• Seek out opportunities to improve supporter communications

• Respond to queries from supporters and the wider population




• Be flexible and carry out other associated duties as may arise, develop or be assigned in line with the broad remit of the post

• Maintain and improve competencies through continuous professional development

• Abide by organisational policies, codes of conduct and practices

• Support and promote diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace

• Treat with confidentiality any personal, private or sensitive information about individual organisations and or clients or staff etc.


This job description does not form part of the contract and may be amended to suit the changing needs of the service.




















• Experience working in a marketing/PR/communications environment;

• Clear understanding of membership organisations or not for profit sector 

• Project or media based campaigns planning experience  

• Liaison with suppliers to ensure they deliver on time, to budget and to spec

• Demonstrable experience and understanding of social media


Skills and abilities:



• Clear and precise, but also engaging writing skills; including evidence of producing articles, reports and blog content

• Good attention to detail with accurate proof reading skills, and excellent spelling and grammar

• Project management – proven ability to manage complex projects from start to finish.

• Organisational and planning skills with an ability to multi-task, lead on certain areas and meet tight deadlines

• Creative thinking and writing capability and the confidence to input own ideas;

• Confident communicating with people from different cultural backgrounds

• Adopt a forward thinking and solution-focused approach and make decisions under pressure 

• Build and maintain effective working relationships with members, partners, suppliers and staff

•    IT skills at a level that supports report writing, email, internet and database, plus website and social media capability





• A working understanding of global health issues and knowledge of viral hepatitis.

• Capacity building strategies for Civil Society (ideally)


Some of the below would be an advantage


• Knowledge of design and photo editing software; website development and content management systems; social media management tools; e-marketing tools; media monitoring and digital analytics tools





• No one specific qualification is required, but evidence of recent continuing professional development in a professional area relevant to the post will be required
