Job Description

World Land Trust (WLT) is a major UK charity which promotes the conservation, protection and improvement of the natural environment throughout the world. The Trust’s digital and printed communications are vital for keeping in touch with donors and engaging new support and awareness of our work.

As Writer/Editor, you will assist in the writing, editing and reviewing of all digital and published materials as well as assisting with corporate communications, internal reports and presentations, along with other functions related to a wildlife conservation charity.

You will be responsible for researching, writing and editing creative and engaging content for digital and print communications that reinforce the Trust’s brand, inspire supporters and capture the public attention.

The main responsibilities of Writer/Editor will include:

  • Working closely with the Head of Communications and the rest of the Communications Team to deliver high-quality editorial content, with key responsibilities for keeping the Trust’s website up to date and managing the monthly email newsletter;
  • Generating ideas, in collaboration with colleagues, to help promote the Trust’s campaigns;
  • Contributing to social media activities, marketing materials, newsletters and blogs to communicate the Trust’s key messages;
  • Writing press releases, carrying out associated press activities and monitoring press coverage;
  • Undertaking essential day-to-day editorial functions, including sub-editing and proofreading.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Preferably a graduate in Journalism with a minimum of two years writing/editorial experience;
  • Proven ability to write compelling copy, targeting different audiences and explaining complex issues in an accessible and exciting manner;
  • Good IT skills and comfortable with learning new software;
  • Excellent editing, copy-editing and proofreading skills;
  • Excellent communications skills in verbal and written English;
  • A good understanding of the different requirements of online and print communications.

  • A creative thinker, but able to demonstrate excellent attention to detail;
  • Capable at multi-tasking, and able to work under pressure to tight deadlines;
  • A team player, but confident at working under own initiative;
  • Passionate about environmental issues with some knowledge of the environmental sector.
