Who we are

Y Care International is the relief and development agency of the YMCA movement in the UK and Ireland. Working in partnership with YMCAs around the world, Y Care International supports youth-focused programmes of action and advocacy that meet the needs of disadvantaged and vulnerable young people. We also work in partnership with YMCAs in the UK and Ireland, engaging marginalised young people in global issues through global youth work and campaigning. Our vision and mission YCI’s vision is of • a world where the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable young people are transformed • a YCI that is a leader in youth development and global youth work • a YMCA movement that is socially relevant and youth focused YCI’s mission is therefore ‘to work in partnership with young people worldwide through the YMCA Movement to help them enrich their lives and to build a more just world, free from poverty’. Our values The way that YCI works is informed by its values, including a commitment to: • Inclusiveness – valuing the continuing influence of YCI’s Christian and ecumenical roots, where all, especially young people, and those with religious faith and those with none, have a valued place • Partnership – an approach to working with others that is transparent, respectful, modest and marked by a shared commitment to working with the most disadvantaged young people • Participation – the effective participation of all aspects of YCI’s life and work • Learning – through reflection, sharing and evaluation, so achieving the best that we can in the work that we do.
