An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new position of Director of People, Culture, and Inclusion for YMCA Heart of England, based in Birmingham, West Midlands.
Who are we?
YMCA Heart of England, part of the global YMCA movement, aims to inspire young people to discover their potential so that they can live life in all its fullness. The YMCA’s vision is of an inclusive Christian Movement, transforming communities so that all young people truly belong, contribute, and thrive.
We provide accommodation for more than 340 young people, many of whom have experienced homelessness, and support them to get their lives back on track. We also provide a range of services across Birmingham and Coventry including class leading conferencing facilities, training and education for life and employability skills, health and well-being programmes and extensive youth work projects.
Following a merger between YMCA Birmingham and YMCA Coventry & Warwickshire in 2020, we’re now looking for a dynamic and ambitious Director of People, Culture, and Inclusion to lead on culture practices and behaviours within the organisation and provide expertise and support in areas of performance management, employee relations, employee engagement, diversity, equity and inclusion, policy and procedure development and HR compliance.
A key role expectation is to ensure that the Christian ethos of the organisation is embedded throughout and that this can be evidenced through the behaviours of staff and volunteers including and importantly within leadership and management roles. It also includes oversight of YMCA Heart of England’s HR and chaplaincy team.
In this role, you'll report directly to the Chief Executive as part of the Executive leadership Team. You will lead our HR and People strategies, including:
- Culture and Values - ensure our core principles remain core to everything we do.
- HR - build clear, robust, and inclusive HR practices that unlock high performance.
- Leadership - model and drive our culture and ethos with all stakeholders.
- Equity and inclusion – design our organisation for inclusion as your start point.
- Wellbeing - support our team’s wellbeing, including mental health at work.
- People development – ensure everyone has access to the knowledge and training they need to continue to grow themselves, our service users, and our organisation.
You’ll have significant HR & OD leadership experience gained in a complex, people-focused organisation with a proven track record of pursuing creative strategies that deliver progressive organisational development, cohesive culture with broad diversity and inclusion.
Intellectually curious and a strategic thinker, you will bring excellent communication skills and stakeholder management experience and will have a genuine commitment to the transformative vision and mission of the YMCA.
