The Role
Last autumn, Yorkshire Cancer Research opened the first Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre – a fully integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Centre, Café, Shop, Donation Centre and Office, all under one roof.
We are currently looking for a Deputy Café Manager to join our Café team. Reporting to the Café Manager, you will be involved in the day to day running of the café, serving food and drink in a positive and welcoming manner. This role would ideally suit someone working in a similar position looking for a new challenge or for someone looking to step into their first management role.
Specifically, you will:

Play an active part in running our Café in Harrogate, supporting the Café Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

Support the Café Manager to maximise the income and profit of the Café through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation.

Manage the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Café in the absence of the Café Manager.

Support the Café Manager to ensure the Café is presented to the highest standards.

Maintain an up-to-date awareness of developments within the café/food service industry and recommend appropriate changes to the delivery of café services and products to the Café Manager.

Manage a team of well-trained volunteers and staff and take every effort to create a happy Café environment.

Ensure there are sufficient volunteers and staff to support the effective operation of the Café during all opening hours.

Maximising profitability through driving sales and managing and controlling costs, stock, and margins effectively.

Prepare and complete all Café administration in the absence of the Café Manager including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures.

Develop and coach a team of volunteers and staff to deliver an outstanding customer experience.

Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:

To be ideally educated to GCSE level or equivalent but not essential.

To have a Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certification.

To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development.

To have a proven track record in hospitality or catering.
-
To have previous experience in charity sector or commercial sector is desirable.

To have basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel.

To be highly organised with good time management skills.

To be able to to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

To have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

To be resilient and adaptable to change.

To have good written and numeric skills are desirable.

The Role
As a Deputy Charity Shop Manager you will actively support in leading a team of volunteers to help raise funds to invest in achieving the charity’s strategic goal of saving more lives in Yorkshire.
Supporting the Shop Manager, you will portray the charity as a professional, credible brand which acts with integrity and provide excellent customer service, ensuring volunteers, donors and customers know how their contribution is helping the people of Yorkshire.
Specifically, you will:

Play an active part in running our shop in Richmond, supporting the Shop Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

Provide cover for days off, holidays and sickness as required, with possible occasional travel to other shops to provide support if needed by the charity.

Support the Shop Manager to maximise the income and profit of the shop through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation.

Manage the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the shop in the absence of the Shop Manager.

Manage a team of well-trained volunteers in the absence of the Shop Manager and take every effort to create a happy retail environment.

Support the Shop Manager to ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received).

Support the Shop Manager to ensure accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes.

Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters.

Operations Lead
Salary: £23,595 (£39325 pro-rated) (likely increase from August 1st to keep up with inflation)
Hours: 22.5 (3 days) per week

The role at a glance: Leading on EFA’s operations, with particularly emphasis on financial management and HR support for our small team of (currently) 8 employees. You’ll develop and administer our People policies, practices and culture to support EFA as a happy, equitable place to work and an effective mission-focused organisation. Scope for both day-to-day care for our systems and creative improvement of how we do things. About EFA
English for Action provides free, participatory, and empowering English language classes (ESOL) for migrants in London. Our classes are spaces to build community and support students to organise collectively around issues like employment and housing rights. Our work currently supports around 500 adult migrants across London. We’ve become a national centre of good practice for a radical participatory approach to ESOL, informed by the work of Paulo Freire, and we share this approach through trainings, research and partnerships.
Organisation: We are a staff team of 8 people supported by a larger team of volunteers and 9 trustees. EFA promotes shared leadership and collaboration and we aim for our organisational structure to reflect this. In the last 4 years we’ve transitioned away from having a CEO to an executive team to oversee operations and decision-making - which you could be elected to join following your probation period. We’re still in transition and there is scope to make a real contribution to developing innovative practice within our workplace. The role is home based with some travel in/around Hampshire and the IOW. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a new challenge and a step up. Our financial information is highly visible to our donors and grantees, so this role is a crucial enabler for the effective delivery of all areas of our work. The role will be overseen by a part time Finance Manager, who will produce management accounts, annual accounts, budgets, forecasts etc. Part time work will be considered for the right candidate.
The Finance Officer/Bookkeeper will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely finance administration, across two databases (currently Sage and Salesforce). This is a vital role within HIWCF, as high quality finance information is fundamental to our role and reputation in the region as a trusted partner for our fundholders and grantees.
Key Tasks
· Adding all payments transactions (grants, invoices, salaries, expenses, HMRC payments etc) to Sage and the bank accounts, ensuring all evidence is correct and payments are correctly authorised
· Adding all donation income to Sage and Salesforce, and working with other team members to ensure they are acknowledged appropriately
· Adding all quarterly investment income to Sage and Salesforce and reconciling across both databases, and to the investment house reports and bank account
· Regular reconciliations between Sage and Salesforce and bank accounts
· Ensure HMRC payments and gift aid claims are undertaken in a timely manner
· Manage banking records
· Monthly reconciliations for Bank account, purchase ledger, Sage, Salesforce, prepayments, accruals, salaries, PAYE, pension etc
· Monthly journals for non-cost items
· Manage pension with NEST and other ad hoc pension providers and manage insurances
· Ad hoc finance related tasks including reporting on returned grants, managing pension payments, insurances etc
· Any other appropriate tasks as directed
