Reporting to the Global Relations Manager, the Communications Officer will be responsible for the consistent delivery of all CTO communication targets. The post holder will develop and implement CTO communication and stakeholder relationship policies and protocols, that recognise best practice approaches and the culture of the CTO. The Communications Officer will ensure the CTO website is always updated and monitored and is the CTO’s primary communications channel. You will collaborate with the IT Administrator to ensure the CTO’s internal and external communication is technologically driven and designed to encourage real-time information-sharing and feedback.

We are looking for an all-rounded communications professional with significant experience in a similar capacity in an organisation with a comparable scope and complexity. The post holder needs to have excellent verbal and written English language skills, digital marketing experience, and a proven track record of successfully delivering compelling communications across multiple platforms. Specialised knowledge of Digitalisation, ICT, and social media optimisation would be an asset.

The Role 

Reporting to the Policy & Public Affairs Manager, as part of the Cancer Insight Team, the Public Affairs Officer will support the development and delivery of our growing influencing work, managing relationships with national and regional decision-makers, developing and mobilising a campaign supporter base and producing annual policy campaign plans.
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Conduct and regularly review external stakeholder analyses of key decision-makers within Yorkshire, Westminster and the NHS, with a view to building and maintaining effective relationships. 

• Undertake research, actively seek to build relationships and manage a rolling contact programme for key external stakeholders. 

• Organise a wide variety of meetings and events, both in-house and externally. 

• Develop strong relationships with public affairs counterparts within the cancer charity, health inequality and Yorkshire charity spheres, with a view to sharing best practice and coordinating efforts on areas of mutual interest. 

• Monitor political announcements, developments and news at a national and regional level to inform both policy and public affairs workstreams and coordinate engagement where appropriate. 

• Maintain sound knowledge of relevant policy issues at a national and regional level. 

• Produce blogs, consultation responses, internal and external briefings, parliamentary questions, key messages and letters. 

• Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of campaigns which support our influencing activity. 

• Oversee the recruitment, retainment and mobilisation of a campaign supporter network.

The Role 
 
As our Policy and Cancer Insight Assistant you will play a vital role in supporting the Cancer Insight Team to develop policy papers, present data on cancer in Yorkshire, and conduct influencing work to increase support for Yorkshire Cancer Research. 

 
Supporting the Policy officer, you will perform a range of tasks to support the Cancer Insight Team's goals. This involves informing internal employees, supporters, and the public about the charity’s stance on multiple cancer-related topics. Additionally, you will assist with collecting data and evidence related to cancer in Yorkshire, crucial for understanding regional needs and shaping the charity’s objectives.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Support the Policy Officer to conduct literature reviews and research for policy development and updates. 

• Monitor political announcements, developments and parliamentary news at a national and regional level to inform both policy and public affairs workstreams. 

• Support the Public Affairs Officer with the research of key public affairs targets and their interests, plus undertake regular stakeholder analyses at a national and regional level. 

• Draft reports, letters, briefings, background resources, parliamentary questions and ensure that the correct messages are conveyed in every external-facing communication. 

• Support the Data and Impact Officer in the maintenance of a portfolio of regularly updated external data, facts, statistics, and evidence relevant to cancer in Yorkshire. 

• Support the preparation of reports relating to external and internal data requests, including assisting with the regularly updated factsheets. 

• Assist in the preparation of data requests from across the charity - these will largely be to support the Research, Services and Policy, and Brand & Relationships teams, and could include data and information for press releases, social media, presentations, and planning of future work and priority areas.

The Role 

The role of Retail Support Manager involves actively running our shops in the absence of our Shop Managers. The role requires managing the day-to-day operation of the shop including managing a team of volunteers, ensuring accurate accounting and handling of assets, delivering high standards of customer service, and adhering to all charity policies and procedures.  

You will lead by example and ensure that volunteers, supporters, donors, and customers understand how their contributions are making a difference to the lives of people in Yorkshire and beyond.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Provide management cover at Retail locations as required by the charity currently including (but not limited to): Knaresborough Shop, Northallerton Shop, Pickering Shop, Ripon Shop, Harrogate Shop, Hornbeam Park Shop, Skipton Shop, Leeds Shop, Yeadon Shop, Donation Centre in Harrogate and subsequent locations as the charity grows. Depending on the role holder’s geographic location we can agree which areas will be covered. 

• Lead a team of volunteers to deliver an outstanding customer experience. 

• Manage agreed shop operating policy and standards including Health and Safety and Trading Standards in the absence of the Shop Manager. 

• Deliver any volunteer training required and take every effort to create a welcoming and happy environment. 

• Responsible for volunteer training and engagement, ensuring the volunteer management system is actively kept up to date in the absence of the Shop Manager. 

• Ensure there is management cover and sufficient volunteers to operate all trading hours. 

• Ensure accurate accounting and handling of assets (items donated and money received). 

• Responsible for ensuring accurate record keeping of items donated and the amount paid for each item for Gift Aid tax reclaim purposes at each location. 

• Prepare and complete all shop administration including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures at each location. 

• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters. 

 
About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be ideally educated to A Level or equivalent. 

• To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development. 

• To have previous retail experience in the charity sector or commercial sector is desirable.

• To ensure accurate recording of supporter information and reporting on activity through:
  • Updating the charity’s database, e-tapestry, recording all donor contact and fundraising activity.
  • To prepare regular income reports and updates as required.
• To keep up- to- date and comply with the rules as set by the Fundraising Regulator, GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and other relevant legislation and codes of practice and good practice.

Our Supporter Care team offers advice, information, and inspiration to our supporters on all aspects of fundraising and making donations to taking part in an event and volunteer roles such as cheering on our marathon runners or supporting a campaign.

As part of the Supporter Care team, you will be the first point of contact for our supporters, across different communication channels, ranging from phone, webchat, email and social media and will be supporting them every step of the way on their fundraising journey.

With 98% of our income coming from voluntary sources, you will identify the needs of our amazing fundraisers to help them achieve their fundraising goals whilst recognising when they need support from the Macmillan Support Line.

The Role 
 
Last autumn, Yorkshire Cancer Research opened the first Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre – a fully integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Centre, Café, Shop, Donation Centre and Office, all under one roof.

We are currently looking for a Deputy Café Manager to join our Café team. Reporting to the Café Manager, you will be involved in the day to day running of the café, serving food and drink in a positive and welcoming manner. This role would ideally suit someone working in a similar position looking for a new challenge or for someone looking to step into their first management role.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Play an active part in running our Café in Harrogate, supporting the Café Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

• Support the Café Manager to maximise the income and profit of the Café through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation. 

• Manage the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Café in the absence of the Café Manager. 

• Support the Café Manager to ensure the Café is presented to the highest standards. 

• Maintain an up-to-date awareness of developments within the café/food service industry and recommend appropriate changes to the delivery of café services and products to the Café Manager. 

• Manage a team of well-trained volunteers and staff and take every effort to create a happy Café environment. 

• Ensure there are sufficient volunteers and staff to support the effective operation of the Café during all opening hours. 

• Maximising profitability through driving sales and managing and controlling costs, stock, and margins effectively. 

• Prepare and complete all Café administration in the absence of the Café Manager including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures. 

• Develop and coach a team of volunteers and staff to deliver an outstanding customer experience. 

• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters. 

About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be ideally educated to GCSE level or equivalent but not essential.

• To have a Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certification. 

• To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development. 

• To have a proven track record in hospitality or catering.

• To have previous experience in charity sector or commercial sector is desirable. 

• To have basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

• To be highly organised with good time management skills.

• To be able to to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

• To have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• To be resilient and adaptable to change. 

• To have good written and numeric skills are desirable.

MOVE Charity Programme Coordinator

MOVE AGAINST CANCER Charity (MOVE) is looking for an experienced, dynamic and motivated Programme Coordinator with the passion and the skills to support our small teams and programmes.

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced individual with a strong administration background to join our growing team. We are looking for an exceptional individual with administration, data management, logistics experience, organisational skills and someone who can provide valuable support across our programmes as we grow.

Salary: £20k - £23k depending on experience.

Contract: Full Time fixed term contract for 12 months with potential to extend further.

About this key role

As our Beyond the Gate Caseworker, you will provide a community-based service that engages, motivates and facilitates those on license to make progress, through a range of one-to-one sessions, group activities, training and supportive measures.  You will work with your caseload of clients to produce individual action plans that support them to overcome social inclusion barriers, including housing, substance misuse, relationships, training, employment, finance debt and benefit, and deliver a range of planned custody and community assessments and interventions that keep clients engaged, motivated, and making progress.

We will also count on you to ensure all immediate appointments on release are attended such as probation, mental health, housing and substance misuse, and the delivery of small group activities based on need, including tenancy management, emotional wellbeing, shopping on a budget.  Liaising constructively with HM Prison Service and Probation personnel to share updates and completing referrals into services as soon as possible after release and map out a support plan for this are also both key aspects of the role, as are working flexibly, covering absences for colleagues, and supporting the delivery lead.

What we are looking for

• Proven track record of supporting ex-offenders 
• Qualification in Advice and Guidance or equivalent, to at least Level 3
• A sound understanding of the issues faced by the client group, such as housing, debt, substance misuse, mental health
• Excellent administrative and case management skills
• The ability to assess participants’ needs and provide client led support
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written
• A flexible, collaborative and professional approach to your work.

Your role

As Shop Manager at Scope's Morley shop, you’ll have autonomy to run your shop using your creativity and flair to flourish in our retail environment. Practitioner - Missing from Home Service - Parental Leave Cover

Fixed Term Contract until 31.12.2024

The Children's Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We're there for children, every step of the way.

This role sits within our children and families directorate, which works to provide immediate one-to-one support for children who are reported missing from home. Your role will be to undertake Return Home Interviews within 72 hours to ensure that children and young people who are at risk of or are missing, are safeguarded and supported to reduce or prevent missing episodes.

If so, St Giles Trust is looking for a highly motivated Youth Engagement Outreach Worker to join our Young Women and Girls Outreach Service, which takes provision onto the streets of Scarborough to engage with ‘hard to reach’ young women and girls.  This will involve building trusted relationships and offering person-centred support to each client to help them to be safe, move away from offending/anti-social behaviours and take positive choices.

Our successful candidate will be expected to produce individual support plans and risk management plans for those we will be providing ongoing support to, and to promote inter-agency collaboration in the support process, ensuring you include appropriate agencies in the delivery of the service.  We will also rely on you to develop and maintain effective relationships with partner agencies, including Early Help and Youth Justice teams, and Community Safety partners, while also supporting individuals to access and engage with support agencies.

Delivering a holistic support service, working independently or with colleagues as the situation dictates, is also a key element of this role, which will involve providing a support service that will include confidence building and self-awareness along with interventions aimed at preventing criminal and sexual exploitation, grooming, violence, sharing inappropriate media content.

What we are looking for

• Has personal experience of the criminal justice system, served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison within reach of Scarborough
• Experience negotiating with partner agencies to establish links to further aims of the project
• Experience of engaging successfully with challenging people
• To have a relevant youth work qualification or equivalent experience
• A sound knowledge of local support services that may be applicable to young people
• An understanding of the need to use support plans
• Excellent IT, relationship-building and communication skills, both verbal and written.
