Based within the Development Team you will look to identify funding opportunities to secure funds to ensure the Hospice successfully achieves its objectives and development plan. With experience of writing bid writing, trust applications and reporting you will have excellent attention to detail and effectively manage deadlines. We are looking for an excellent team player and communicator who is ambitious and solution focussed and has the energy and passion to drive forward our aspirations and operational goals.

The Role
As our Policy and Cancer Insight Assistant you will play a vital role in supporting the Cancer Insight Team to develop policy papers, present data on cancer in Yorkshire, and conduct influencing work to increase support for Yorkshire Cancer Research.
Supporting the Policy officer, you will perform a range of tasks to support the Cancer Insight Team's goals. This involves informing internal employees, supporters, and the public about the charity’s stance on multiple cancer-related topics. Additionally, you will assist with collecting data and evidence related to cancer in Yorkshire, crucial for understanding regional needs and shaping the charity’s objectives.
Specifically, you will:

Support the Policy Officer to conduct literature reviews and research for policy development and updates.

Monitor political announcements, developments and parliamentary news at a national and regional level to inform both policy and public affairs workstreams.

Support the Public Affairs Officer with the research of key public affairs targets and their interests, plus undertake regular stakeholder analyses at a national and regional level.

Draft reports, letters, briefings, background resources, parliamentary questions and ensure that the correct messages are conveyed in every external-facing communication.

Support the Data and Impact Officer in the maintenance of a portfolio of regularly updated external data, facts, statistics, and evidence relevant to cancer in Yorkshire.

Support the preparation of reports relating to external and internal data requests, including assisting with the regularly updated factsheets.

Assist in the preparation of data requests from across the charity - these will largely be to support the Research, Services and Policy, and Brand & Relationships teams, and could include data and information for press releases, social media, presentations, and planning of future work and priority areas.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:

To have experience of working in a relevant subject area, for example politics, public policy, public health or a similar humanities field.

To have an understanding of local, regional and national government, the healthcare system in the UK, the current health policy landscape and UK parliamentary processes.

To have experience of conducting literature reviews.

To have experience of researching a wide variety of topics and organisations and writing evidence-based documents e.g. summary reports, briefings or letters.

To have a passion for policy and influencing in order to deliver impactful change.

To have excellent written and verbal skills.

To have the ability to comprehend health datasets.

To have the ability to identify relevant political updates.

To have the ability to extract key information from journal articles concerning health and policy.

Raising Futures Kenya is an award-winning small UK charity, working closely alongside a wonderful partner NGO in Kenya to deliver a hugely successful vocational training and business skills programme called Seed of Hope.
Since 2002 Seed of Hope has supported over 4,000 disadvantaged young people aged 14-25 in Kenya with the opportunity to learn a skilled trade, computer skills and business skills. Many of these young people are unable to finish their formal education as they are experiencing poverty, so our courses are completely free, to ensure no-one is excluded from the opportunity to learn.
Our free training courses also address any of the barriers which may stop a young person from being able to learn. We offer the Seed of Hope students in Kenya;

menstrual hygiene packs to ensure girls don’t miss lessons because they can’t afford sanitary pads.

We’re here to support young people with whatever they need in order for them to achieve their best in their training course and to go on to secure a job, or start a small business.
We are looking for a talented storyteller and writer to join our small team in the UK and create exceptional content. You’ll support with crafting engaging funding applications, which stand out from the crowd and capture the funders hearts. You’ll create bright and positive social media and blog posts to share the uplifting stories of students and graduates from Seed of Hope and grow our online supporter base, in turn increasing our donors.
We don’t mind if you don’t have charity experience, we’re willing to train you and show you what we do. We are looking for someone who can write excellent content and showcase what we do.
Hours: 14 hours per week, to be worked as either full 7 hour days, or spreading the hours across the week. Regular days and hours to be agreed in advance.
Salary: £28,000 (pro-rata for 14 hours a week)
Pension: 3% employer contribution, 5% employee contribution (opt-out available).
Contract: 1 year fixed term contract. With a view to making it permanent if resources allow.
Base: The role will be home-based and require your own computer. Occasional travel may be required for meetings, expenses will be paid in accordance with our Expenses Policy. Our other 2 part-time staff are based in Sussex, but you can be anywhere in the UK. You must have the right to work in the UK.
