Job Description

Did you know that there are at least 2 children in every classroom who are undertaking caring responsibilities for a member of the family who is sick, disabled or vulnerable due to physical, substance misuse or mental health issues? Trying to balance caring responsibilities whilst growing up can have significant impact on a young person’s health and wellbeing and at school, attendance, behaviour and achievement can all be affected.

As a result of a successful bid to Children in Need, Sutton Carers Centre is able to further develop our innovative existing model of support for Young Carers, including Young Adult Carers, that aims to improve their educational outcomes and engagement by reducing the impact of caring on their school life and academic achievement.

This role involves working with local schools, by building capacity to identify and recognise Young Carers and to put in place effective support mechanisms using The Young Carers in Schools (YCiS) initiative. We will directly support Young Carers with the emotional and relational impact of being a young person in education with additional caring responsibilities.

The post holder will need to be flexible to the needs of Carers as well as the organisation, and may be required to work outside normal office hours, including some weekday evenings and Saturdays. They will be able to demonstrate extensive experience of working with families, knowledge about the specific issues that face Young Carers in particular in respect of their educational needs, alongside evidence of successfully influencing transformational organisational change using community capacity building initiatives. You will also need to be able to measure and evaluate outcomes from the work and communicate any successes formally and informally using a variety of methods.

If you share our values and want to join our ground-breaking team, and think you possess the energy, tenacity and commitment required for this role alongside the relevant knowledge and experience, then please apply now.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
