Job Description

YLC is a non-profit cooperative formed in 2015 as the primary coordinator and commissioner of youth services in Lambeth. We believe that co-produced youth and play services result in better outcomes for children and young people. We have successfully commissioned and embedded a diverse range of outcomes focused youth services and practices in Lambeth and have grown our membership to 7,000 members. Notable achievements include early intervention, employability, health and wellbeing works and violence reduction works through targeted commissioning and support of service providers.

We are looking for a fundraising and business development manager on a full time basis (pro-rata part-time considered for outstanding applicants) to help us achieve the diversifying and growing of our income streams.

To succeed in this role you will need an excellent fundraising record with the ability to combine strategic thinking and delivery of operational work. You will be an excellent communicator and be able thrive within a small and diverse team.

You will be an experienced professional with a history of generating income through corporate fundraising as well as in identifying/developing support from high net worth individuals (major donors). You will also have experience in securing and managing funds from public and third sector commissioners, with the ability to evidence the outcomes and impact of our work through bespoke reporting as required by our funders. A working knowledge of securing and managing Social Impact Bonds (SIB’s) is desired.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Fundraising

  • Research and Generate income from diverse fundraising activities and campaigns to deliver or exceed annual income targets, including: individual giving, Trust and Statutory grants, major donors and corporate partnerships.
  • Develop and participate in fundraising events appropriate to the ethos of the organisation
  • Provide funding prospect analysis and insight to recruit new supporters, retain existing supporters and improve supporter life time and value.
  • Understand and propose developments for product offerings (example; youth insight service) which may yield a financial return (income generating sales)
  • Review through analysis and offer improvement and innovation of fundraising activities to ensure that they meet the needs of the organisation, supporters, fundraisers and donors
  • Using project commissioning knowledge/agreements to report on progress of activities against their plans, highlighting any new and emerging risks and contingency plans
  • Manage donors and activities using donor software including Salesforce
  • Deputise for the Managing Director at high-level meetings and where appropriate to the role
  • Identify opportunities to promote YLC to potential funders and donors
  • Research and propose suitable funding routes for all aspects of YLC business delivery
  • Identify key projects with the Senior Commissioner and Membership Manager which require funding to implement
  • Work with the Managing Director to develop an annual plan of priority funding targets
  • Create an annual Income Generation Strategy (to include the above plan) which retains the ethos and values of the YLC as an organisation
  • Lead the annual refresh of the income generation strategy and contribute to the marketing of the YLC in order to create a positive brand which is attractive to funding bodies and individual donors
  • Develop the longer-term model for generating income from individual donors

Bid Writing

  • Support the Managing Director in the creation of tender applications for consultation, engagement, commissioning and delivery of services
  • Lead on the development of applications to Trusts, Foundations, National Lottery, Social Investors (SIB’s) and other possible funding sources
  • Support and/or work with an external bid-writing consultant in the creation of applications to Trusts and Public Sector sources

Marketing

  • Work with the charity’s designers and printers to develop marketing and publicity materials
  • Contribute ( as appropriate to fundraising) to the charity’s online and social media presence
  • Be a spokesperson for the organisation internally and externally as required
  • To develop, write and produce proposals, mailings, e-newsletters and other materials for donors as required
  • Create a robust and wide ranging case for support for the YLC which can be used to generate funding specific marketing materials, e.g. case studies
  • Support the development of marketing materials for existing and new members to ensure a coherent brand which supports income generation is implemented
  • Work with the Membership Manager to identify and enter relevant award opportunities to recognise and celebrate the development of the YLC
  • Work with the Membership Manager to develop a range of non-financial business sponsorship options for members to benefit from

Stakeholder relationship management

  • Develop relationships with key funding stakeholders in order to ensure that YLC has a high level of understanding of their funding priorities and how the YLC could support them
  • Promote the values of the YLC and our key projects (requiring finance) to funding bodies, corporate partners and individuals
  • Promote the work and values of the YLC at relevant partnership meetings, funding events and through local or national networks

Performance reporting

  • Ensure that reporting requirements for any application are considered and support the development of suitable systems to ensure successful completion of returns to funding bodies
  • To support the development of annual reports and data-insights as required in order to create a coherent case for support and sector shaping
  • To produce an annual report to the Board of Directors demonstrating progress against the Income Generation Strategy and Priority Funding Action Plan
  • Support the Managing Director and communications team in the creation of performance informed materials to influence policy and best practice in the youth sector (sector shaping)

Wider duties

  • To act on behalf of the YLC when requested and to represent YLC when required at meetings with external organisations

Person Specification:

  • Substantial experience in a senior fundraising role
  • Experience in managing high profile non-profit campaign or event
  • Ability to set and monitor income and expenditure budgets
  • Have good written and visual communication skills using MS Office, MailChimp, Social Media and online fundraising platforms
  • Ability to be the decision-maker in relation to the role
  • Ability to work independently yet within a diverse team
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining internal and external working relationships
  • Ability to present ideas and proposals to external audiences
  • Excellent attention to detail
