Youth Concern is celebrating its 40th year as a charity supporting vulnerable young people aged 13-25 years old, in Aylesbury Vale. Its core services include: a Drop-in Centre, counselling provision, emergency accommodation scheme called Aylesbury Nightstop and a Multi-Media studio.
Youth Concern’s vision is that every young person has the resources they need to live a happy, healthy and fulfilling life. Our purpose is to be there for and respond to vulnerable young people when they need us most – at each contact we work to transform lives.
Our mission is to enable young people from diverse backgrounds to broaden their opportunities, realise their aspirations and optimise their well-being. We achieve this through the delivery of bespoke, holistic support packages helping them overcome disadvantage and reduce risk whilst facilitating the transition to independent adulthood.
This is an exciting and challenging time in the charity’s evolution as we look to expand our service offering this year, to meet increasing need. Specifically, we are planning to launch a supported accommodation project for young people experiencing homelessness aged 18-25yrs old.

Summary of Role
Working alongside the CEO of Youth Concern, the Operations Manager will head up and be responsible for the day to day running of the Drop-in Centre, the Next Step, Nightstop scheme and other services. As a member of the senior management team, you will be an inspirational and motivational leader who is able to provide effective line management support for the staff teams as well as being in charge of key infrastructure and operational functions. A dynamic, solution-focused and reflective people manager, you will ensure the smooth running and excellent quality of services offered by Youth Concern, incorporating and promoting Youth Concern’s ethos and identity as expressed through our values and brand. Your financial skills, strategic thinking and excellent communication skills will enable you to stand in for the CEO when necessary. During the role you will
- oversee operations and line management at the Drop-in Centre
- oversee operations and line management at the Next Step
- work closely with and report directly to the CEO
- be part of a friendly, committed, supportive team
- communicate at all levels from young people, staff, stakeholders and the executive board
- utilise your strategic skills to lead, support and develop on key projects
- implement Youth Concern’s policies and procedures
- deputise for the CEO
- be responsible for ensuring timely monitoring in line with internal and external requirements
- be responsible for the financial administration function including budgets & cashflow
- be part of the senior management team
- act as Safeguarding Officer for Youth Concern services
You will be involved in strategic and operational planning in conjunction with the CEO.
You will be responsible for managing budgets and financial reporting.
In addition, you will be expected to attend meetings, be an Ambassador for Youth Concern, promoting the services and raising awareness of young peoples’ issues externally.
You will be skilled at supporting vulnerable clients with the ability to supervise and support staff with a complex caseload. Sector experience is essential.
