About the Youth Endowment Fund

The Youth Endowment Fund is a bold new attempt to put early intervention at the heart of efforts to tackle youth offending.

In recent years violent crime has risen significantly. Homicides, assaults, robberies and offences involving weapons have all seen sustained growth. We have also seen large increases in violent crime involving children and young people. This is a tragedy. Every child captured in these numbers is an important member of our community and society has a duty to protect them.

The Youth Endowment Fund is a charity with a £200m endowment and a mission that matters. Founded by youth charity Impetus and its partners the Early Intervention Foundation and the Social Investment Business, we exist to prevent children and young people from getting caught up in violent crime. We do this by finding the very best ways to prevent youth violence, funding great initiatives and working to scale them up and spread great ideas.

Key responsibilities

Most fundamentally, your job is to work with the Head of Operations to build and manage the systems and processes we need to enable the organisation to function effectively. To do this you will:

  • Assist in developing efficient processes and systems to manage grant giving, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Assist in the design and build phase of the CRM system and maintain the system once it is in place (Salesforce).
  • Ensure staff are trained to a high standard on system, process and reporting requirements.
  • Create reports, analyse data and prepare dashboards and other reporting tools to ensure the YEF team at all levels understand performance (financial and otherwise).
  • Manage risk registers to ensure robust risk management and mitigation.
  • Create budget templates to allow all budget holders to effectively prepare for budget reviews.
  • Regularly review and improve processes to increase efficiency and impact.
  • Provide ad hoc operational support as needed within YEF.
  • Help build and model a culture where it is natural to perform well and support colleagues brilliantly.

About you

You are this sort of person:

  • You are brilliant at improving and organising things: You like finding ways to make things operate better for everyone. You enjoy bringing order to what is going on. You are good at getting your head around how a process works and improving it.
  • You understand the impact of strong systems and processes: You enjoy thinking about how to ensure maximum efficiency and impact. You want to make the jobs of those around you simpler so that they can achieve more. You have experience working within a CRM system and enjoy learning what it can do.
  • You can make the complicated seem simple: You understand the importance of good data and reporting. You are not only able to extract and analyse data but you are able to present this in a way which can be easily understood.
  • You like getting things done: You have a track record of making things happen. In previous jobs, you have held responsibility for ensuring projects are delivered on time. You are very reliable.
  • You win people over. People tend to warm to you and respect you. You have built good relationships with people at every level alongside those outside the organisation.
  • You work very well in a team. You are not motivated by being the individual winner. You want the team as a whole, to succeed. You don’t care who gets the credit as long as things get done.
  • You learn fast but remain humble. You are quick at getting your head around things. It wouldn't faze you to have responsibility for organising things that are new to you as long as you have an expert to ask advice from. You like learning and developing. You know how much you don't know as well as what you do.
  • You don't want your days to pass without making a difference. You want to play a significant part in a charity that is making a difference. You like the idea of doing a job that makes young people safer.
  • You are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. You believe and act in a way that celebrates and encourages a range of experiences, views and values.

While it is not a criteria, we are especially interested to hear from applicants who have lived experience of youth violence.

It is also important to us that the people we hire do not discriminate. We believe in being inclusive and giving everyone an equal chance to succeed. Applications are welcome from all regardless of age, sex, gender identity, disability, marriage or civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, religion or belief, race, sexual orientation, transgender status or social economic background.

You will be required to provide proof of your eligibility to work in the UK. As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant. All options can be discussed at the interview stage.

First round interviews will take place in the week commencing 4th January 2021.

Second round interviews will take place in the week commencing 11th January 2021.

Your personal data will be shared for the purposes of the recruitment exercise. This includes our HR team, interviewers (who may include other partners in the project and independent advisors), relevant team managers and our IT service provider if access to the data is necessary for performance of their roles. We do not share your data with other third parties, unless your application for employment is successful and we make you an offer of employment. We will then share your data with former employers to obtain references for you. We do not transfer your data outside the European Economic Area.
