Our centres provide a high-impact education programme which includes practical learning support, pastoral care, and motivational and confidence-building activities for young people aged 7-18. As the UK’s leading university access organisation, our staff team is helping over 60,000 young people each year at its 46 learning centres and extension projects across England and Scotland, and we plan to scale-up our provision to 50 centres over the coming years.

We are looking for someone who will enjoy working each day with young people and who will thrive in a frontline, community-based, fast-paced and rewarding role. You will be taking up a fixed-term contract as an Education Worker at our centre in Craigmillar (Edinburgh).

The role at a glance

Contract: Part-time, fixed-term until 28th August 2026

Start date: Early July 2026 (candidates must be available to start at this time)

Working hours

18.75 hours a week:

• Wednesday: 09:00-17:30

• Thursday: 09:30-18:00

• Friday: 09:00-12:45

 (Some out-of-hours work will be required from time to time - for example, early starts to deliver workshops in schools.)

Education Workers are based at one of our IntoUniversity learning centres and work directly with young people, schools and families on a daily basis. It is therefore not a hybrid role and is based full-time in our centres.

Salary

£28,250 per annum (pro rata)

Pro-rated salary is £14,125 per annum for 18.75 hours per week.

The role requires intermittent travel in your region (usually within the day) this can involve journeys times of 1 hour+. Occasional travel out of your local area e.g. to London is also required, this may include overnight stays.

The main duties of the role

Centre Re-location

IntoUniversity Craigmillar is moving to a new centre location so a large part of this role will be to help the team with this move. This will include:

• To prepare and set-up, with the centre team, the centre space including preparing resources and organising tables and chairs as necessary.

• Moving furniture and building new furniture to furnish the space

• Create  IntoUniversity displays for the centre.

A large part of this role will require lifting of boxes and furniture.  If you would like further information on this (including reasonable adjustments that could be implemented), please contact us.

Additional Responsibilities

• To work with your team to plan and with the opportunity to deliver IntoUniversity programmes, including leading a group of 30 secondary students from the front, working with whole classes of primary-aged children and providing occasional one-to-one support.

• To play an active role in your regional cluster of centres, including sharing resources and supporting a new team member.

• The opportunity to  lead delivery of  IntoUniversity programmes effectively to children and young people in different settings, including schools-based workshops, Academic Support sessions and educational visits. This includes positive behaviour management and adherence to the IntoUniversity safeguarding policy.

• To assist with the organisation and delivery of the Academic Support, FOCUS and Mentoring Programmes.

• To champion diversity and inclusion at all times, referring to the Diversity and Inclusion staff responsibilities guide.

• To work with IntoUniversity Centre Leaders to recruit children and young people to the programme, including after-school Academic Support and FOCUS Weeks.

• To develop educational resources and worksheets for use across all IntoUniversity programmes.

• To ensure compliance with all necessary regulations and legal requirements, including the Children’s Act, Children and Young People (Scotland) Act, Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act, Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, and legislation and policies related to Equal Opportunities and Health & Safety.

• To undertake any task that may be requested from time to time that may be consistent with the nature and scope of this post.

An ambitious, well-established charity that helps people facing adversity to find jobs, homes and the right support they need. Our funding comes from the fundraising efforts of thousands of supporters as well as income generated by our investments in property and equity markets. We currently grant around £6 million each year – but we want to do more.
 
What you'll be doing
 
We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Programmes & Funding Officer to play a central role in providing administrative and operational support for the Charity's Special Purpose Funds (SPFs). This position is vital to ensure that all activity is recorded accurately, that systems run smoothly and stakeholders receive an exceptional level of support.
 
You will contribute to the development and delivery of a bespoke fundholder service, enabling fundholders to maximise the impact of their SPFs in advancing care for heart and lung patients.

We are seeking to recruit a Service Support Worker to join our multi-disciplinary team supporting young people aged 11–25 with their mental health and emotional wellbeing. This role will enhance our team by providing reception duties and administration and support related to our service areas

North Paddington Foodbank (NPFB) is looking for a Triage Support Officer to join our innovative and vibrant team.

You will be the first point of contact for households in crisis situations, responsible for triaging referrals,
assessing eligibility, and ensuring residents are connected to the right support, through Crisis & Resilience

Gareth Stacey House and Lansworth House are our 24-hour supported housing services in central Brighton and Hove offering high levels of housing-related support for young people aged 16-25 with multiple and complex needs. The services have 15 and 20 bedspaces respectively, with shared communal facilities; the services support young people to manage their daily living activities in areas including finances and budgeting, developing life and work skills, and managing self-care.

We adopt a trauma informed and psychologically informed approach to supporting our residents to help them build essential life skills, identify their goals and work towards aspirations so that they can move on to enjoy fully independent futures.

We are looking for a Supported Housing Support Worker to join our team, who will hold a caseload of residents and meet with them weekly to build a support plan. Main areas of responsibilities are:

Housing and Compliance

• Support young people to understand and comply with their occupancy agreements, including coaching them to meet house rules and responsibilities as part of preparing for successful independent living.
• Promote a strong rent‑payment and credit culture, encouraging residents to maintain regular payments and understand their financial obligations.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of housing legislation, welfare benefits, and statutory requirements affecting young people, ensuring practice aligns with current housing law and organisational policies.
• Respond promptly and effectively to breaches of agreement, including rent arrears, antisocial behaviour, or property damage, using restorative approaches where appropriate and working collaboratively with the wider team.

Coaching and Engagement

• Coach young people so they can articulate their aspirations and ambitions and take the lead in acquiring the skills they need to live independent and fulfilling lives.
• Ensure young people are encouraged to take responsibility for their own personal development, to engage with the services on offer and build strong networks and connections within the local community.
• Ensure consistent standards of safeguarding and Trauma Informed Practice when supporting young people, observing our safeguarding procedures, and keeping yourself and residents safe by respecting professional boundaries.
• Maintain client records on In-Form (client database) detailing the young person’s journey in relation to their strengths and needs, any risks, and any outcomes (to monitor service performance).

There will be times when lone working will be a requirement for this role, but you will get to know the team and service, along with an induction and training prior to starting on a rota.

• Familiarity with statutory and voluntary services available to young people and ability to work proactively with a caseload to support progression towards independent living.

Skills and Abilities

• Confident in record‑keeping, including case notes, incident reporting, and health and safety checks.
• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing for appropriate recording of a resident’s progression, and to evidence outcomes achieved.
• Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, including signposting and advocating for clients as necessary.
• Ability to work autonomously, and use own initiative, as well as being part of a team.
• Clear verbal and written communication skills, good IT, and keyboard skills.
• Ability to de-escalate volatile situations and manage challenging behaviour appropriately.

We pioneered social prescribing in Merton, now embedded in every GP practice for over a decade. We also deliver Healthwatch Merton, the Home Visits Library and Merton Giving.

Merton Giving is our collaborative grant-giving programme through which we work with local people and organisations to raise funds that are distributed to local community organisations to tackle issues identified by local people. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Fundraising and Strategy

• Work with the Strategic Lead to develop and implement a fundraising strategy, including agreed income targets)
• Proactively build and manage a solid pipeline of funding applications and approaches.
• Establish, cultivate, and maintain strong relationships with potential and existing funders, including corporates, trusts & foundations, high-net-worth individuals and the statutory sector.
• Work with the Strategic Lead to identify and take opportunities to engage and develop relationships with Merton’s businesses and High Net Worth individuals.
• Work with the Merton Connected team to explore how to maximise sector benefit from corporate volunteering and in-kind support.
• Write compelling funding applications and manage reporting requirements.
• Create and manage an efficient office system and processes for the fundraising function.

Publicity and marketing

• Promote Merton Giving to stakeholders through producing promotional material, maintaining the website, and social media
• Run events and identify opportunities to promote Merton Giving, especially to businesses and HNWs
• Work with the Grants Manager to collect impact stories from grant recipients for publicity

Partnership Development

• Work with the Strategic Lead to develop partnerships, and identify opportunities for added value and mutual benefit, such as promoting Merton Giving through the Council’s payroll giving scheme.
• Act as an ambassador for Merton Giving, representing the organisation at external events and meetings

Additional Responsibilities

• Ensure all fundraising activities are aligned with Merton Giving/Merton Connected aims and values.
• Occasionally work outside of normal office hours to support Merton Giving events and activities.
• Support with organisational tasks as required in a small, dynamic team.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential:

• Proven experience in fundraising, with a track record of securing income exceeding £300,000 a year from a diverse range of sources (corporates, trusts, individuals, and statutory sector).
• Demonstrable experience in building and managing strong relationships and partnerships with funders and stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in writing persuasive funding applications and reports.
• Strong strategic thinking skills, with the ability to develop and implement long-term fundraising plans.
• The ability to influence people through persuasive argument
