Job title: Chief Operating Officer

Location: This role is a blend of working 3 days a week from our Loughborough office on the Loughborough University campus and working from home. 

Salary: £75,000 - £90,000 per annum.

Responsibilities within this role:

• Provide oversight of the charity’s finance function through line management of the Finance & Governance Director and ensure our finance processes and systems integrate effectively with other business systems:

• Working with the Finance and Governance Director, lead on the development and implementation of wider financial strategies to guide the long-term financial sustainability of the organisation, providing advice and guidance to the CEO, and the Board.

• Anticipate the Charity’s resource needs as it continues to develop and consolidate, plan and implement the necessary changes in liaison with the Executive team.

• Work with the CEO and Finance and Governance Director, to ensure effective financial management and planning including the development of key performance indicators.

• Work with the Finance and Governance Director, to provide financial advice and support to YST’s trading subsidiary (YSTE) to ensure it is effectively utilised and managed.

• Oversee business planning across multiple income streams, allocating resources effectively and efficiently.

• Provide oversight of the HR and people development function through line management of the Assistant Director, HR:

• Work with the Assistant Director, HR, to lead the development and implementation of the organisation’s people strategy, including equity, diversity and inclusion, culture, talent development and management.

• Ensure YST has the best organisational design and appropriate resources to live out our values and behaviours, develop and support high performing teams and deliver on our mission.

• Support, develop and provide line management to, the Head of Implementation and the Business Performance Manager ensuring they and their teams provide excellent internal and external customer service.

• Drive excellence in the performance of all reports, building knowledge of their specialist areas and ensuring they are able to excel.

• Provide coaching and mentoring to direct reports contributing to a high-performance culture and values-led, mission driven team.

Qualifications

• An appropriate financial qualification (ACA) or strong financial acumen.

• Other relevant professional qualifications to the role.

Experience

• Extensive proven operational leadership experience.

• Experience of leading the development of digital and business systems which have improved business performance.

• Experience of working as a member of a senior leadership team.

• Experience of successfully managing a multi-functional team within an organisation of comparable size and complexity.

• Strong governance experience of working within highly regulated environments and establishing regulatory frameworks.

• Experience in communication, influencing and advocacy both internally up to board level and with external stakeholders or partners.

• Experience of leading and delivering business change.

• Experience of successfully leading and inspiring a high performing team.

• A previous track record of understanding the latest trends and technologies.

Railway Children works here in the UK and internationally to support vulnerable children alone and at risk on the streets and at transport hubs. They're best known for their work in India, where thousands of children arrive frightened and alone at rail and bus terminals every day. Some are passing through having fallen prey to groomers, traffickers or drug gangs. Others are lost miles from home.

In this role, you'll be working for an organisation that responds to this need by:

* Training 11,614 British Transport Police and railway staff to identify and support vulnerable children.
* Reaching and protecting 3,727 children in India across 8 railway stations and 1 bus terminal.
* Supporting 1,789 children in Tanzania to move away from the streets to a brighter future.

About the role
You'll work as part of an established and growing fundraising team to secure and steward four, five and six-figure grants from trusts, foundations and institutions in the UK and overseas.

This will include a portfolio of new and existing donors with varied day-to-day tasks. You'll submit funding proposals and manage existing grants, as well as prepare high-quality feedback reports and deliver outstanding stewardship.

You'll already have a proven track-record securing funding from trusts, foundations and/or institutions and statutory funders. However, you don't necessarily need to come with previous international experience (though, of course, you'd be very welcome to apply if you do).

Join us as our Director of Finance and IT at War Child UK, a pivotal role within our Leadership Group reporting directly to Helen Pattinson, CEO. Your role is to lead our finance and IT, but as a member of our leadership group to take joint responsibility with other Directors for leading the organisation.

As Finance and IT Director, you'll lead the optimisation of our finance and IT systems to streamline recording and reporting of financial transactions. Your analytical skills will be essential as you explore cost and income centres, supplying vital data necessary to significantly enhance our fundraising efforts.

Beyond day-to-day operations, you'll play a strategic role in long-term financial planning, fostering collaboration across the War Child Alliance. Together with fellow leaders, you'll steward the wider organisation, ensuring War Child UK is ready for success and equipped with ambitious financial investment frameworks.

Success in this role also entails ensuring our IT systems maintain the highest standards of excellence, delivering accurate and timely financial performance insights. You'll contribute to a vision where War Child UK achieves extraordinary results within a financially sound Alliance, empowering members to maximise their impact while being accountable for every penny raised.

You will be a qualified accountant with exceptional strategic and operational experience. You do not necessarily need to have prior international development experience, although you will need to demonstrate that you can build effective working relationships with overseas counterparts. Experience of working within a complex fundraising environment would be highly advantageous though.  For this role, we are also as keen to hear from experienced directors who are excited by what we do as we are from those for whom this would be their first senior leadership role.

We are looking for a Trust Fundraising Manager for an incredible youth charity to be proactive in identifying and developing new and existing relationships with trusts, foundations and statutory bodies in order to generate income.

This is a hybrid role ideally with 1 day a week/fortnight in the London office.

The Charity

The Role
Work with the CEO and Operations & Finance Director to identify funding priorities and develop compelling cases for support, primarily for trusts and foundations but potentially broader income streams.

Develop and manage a realistic weighted pipeline of trusts and foundations income, including the development of new multi-year and growth fund opportunities.

Identify, research and approach prospective contacts in order to cultivate relationships and generate new funds.

Prepare interim and final reports to funders in a timely fashion and manage ongoing relationships.

Optional to line manage a team of two trust officers.

The Candidate
A strong track record of submitting high quality fundraising bids and securing multiple five and ideakky six fugure bids.

Good knowledge of Trusts & Foundations funding, timescales and reporting requirements.

Awareness of the General Data Protection Regulations, particularly with reference to charities and fundraising.

A passion for young people and the arts.
