It takes a dynamic and energetic team to deliver this ambition through both social change and social influence. We are seeking to appoint a new post of Director of Partnerships to lead the ongoing development and delivery of Barnwood Trust’s strategy for engagement of the county in its vision for the future, creating the conditions and environment in which it can fulfil its mission as a catalyst for lasting social change with people, places and organisations across Gloucestershire.

The new role of Director of Partnerships will provide strategic leadership for the Trust’s influencing work which supports people in places and organisations across the county, to both

  • and to take action to create that future

As a member of the Senior Management Team, the role will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of, and budget for, all the Trust’s work which focuses on influencing organisations and people across the county for social change to achieve the Trust’s vision.

The role of the Director of Partnerships will be to

  1. identify ideas and good practice from elsewhere in the UK and internationally, together with likely future social trends, to create a culture in which disabled people are enabled to make the most of the lives, discerning what is relevant to Gloucestershire and the Trust’s vision and strategy,
  2. seed and nurture innovative, inventive, stimulating and effective ways of sharing those ideas, trends and practices,
  3. bring together and facilitate people in organisations, interest groups and communities across Gloucestershire to identify collectively how to create and sustain a positive environment in which disabled people are enabled to make the most of their lives and build and maintain momentum, motivation, energy and enthusiasm for collective and collaborative engagement and
  4. facilitate the team at Barnwood to participate in sharing, advocating and disseminating ideas, experience, research and policy findings, and in campaigning.

We are looking for someone with direct experience of influencing leading to positive social justice-related change, demonstrating vision and creativity and with current knowledge of innovations, good practice and policy issues related to influencing both social justice and social care provision and enabling social movements, both nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will have experience of creating and leading the implementation of a strategy, motivating and enabling others to participate in its delivery, with exceptional skills and track record in building and sustaining relationships with a wide variety of people, speaking, presenting and writing skills reaching a wide variety of audiences in a wide variety of media.

We offer a competitive salary benchmarked against national charity sector benchmarks, together with a generous pension scheme, and 36 days annual leave (including bank holidays).

Barnwood Trust has been working in Gloucestershire for over 200 years.  Our vision is to create the best possible environment in Gloucestershire for disabled people and people with mental health challenges to make the most of their lives, building a sense of belonging.  As the Trust has a significant investment portfolio we do not have to raise funds. We are able to direct all of the enthusiasm, energy, skills and knowledge of our staff, Trustees and Governors towards helping thousands of people every year.  We do this through our four key innovative and expanding programmes covering opportunities, community building, housing, and evaluation and research. We want to bring about lasting change in the attitudes of individuals, communities and organisations towards disability so that Gloucestershire becomes a more welcoming and inclusive place to live. The interest in what we are doing suggests that the work we are developing here will also have implications for changing culture and practice outside of the county, contributing to social change nationally.
