Introduction to the role
As a Bid writer your role will be to help develop and sustain new and exciting projects that promote community wellbeing and tackle inequality. Working as part of the funding team you will be responsible for identifying and researching new opportunities, building strategic partnerships and writing strong funding applications
Main duties
- Work with colleagues to scope new funding opportunities by scanning and cataloguing opportunity portals in line with our strategic aims and objectives
- Identify suitable opportunities for bidding,
- Produce high quality funding bids including writing and editing copy, collating case studies and other response material as appropriate
- Ensure that deadlines are met and that submissions are managed in a timely way
- Work as part of the funding team to regularly review and continuously improve processes around fundraising in the organisation
- Develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external)
- Keep abreast of new and emergent thinking across wellbeing, community development and tackling inequalities
- Support our staff and communities to develop skills in fundraising
Knowledge, skills and experience
- Track record of working autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast paced and challenging environment
- Experience of carrying out research-based tasks
- Strong written and communication skills, ability to write, review and edit copy to a high standard
- Skilled at summarising complex ideas in writing
- Evidence of being creative and entrepreneurial in approach
- A good understanding of the political and social landscape of wellbeing finding in Essex, the South East and nationally
- Ability to plan, prioritise, achieve targets and deliver to deadlines
- Experience of strong partnership working, interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Highly proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Passionate about tackling inequality and community wellbeing.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Communications Officer to join our fast-paced organisation as we grow and maximise opportunities for national delivery. As part of a dynamic and friendly communications and marketing team, your role will help widely raise the profile of TAWS across all areas of work, from creating content for internal and external communications channels, optimising digital content for national reach, building relationships with strategic stakeholders online, to cultivating media relations and drafting impactful press releases.
This role is suited to someone with a passion from tackling inequalities and promoting community wellbeing, and a keen understanding of the social and political landscape in which we operate. You will play a key role in helping to bring the TAWS brand proposition to life, telling our story in compelling and engaging ways to a range of audiences. You will be able to think creatively and see the bigger picture, as well as be comfortable delivering key tasks such as producing a newsletter and social media content. You will be responsible for communications about our key projects, and priorities, taking complex and varied information and translating it into content that promotes the work of TAWS and its impact to diverse audiences.
We are working to a hybrid model across the organisation and value in-person contact. This role will require regular weekly working at our head office in Birmingham or other designated offices / locations across the city and travel and work from other locations outside of Birmingham as part of our national work.
Main duties
- Write and edit high quality engaging copy for sharing across internal and external marketing communications channels and in support of the strategic vision, mission and values of TAWS.
- Build organisational profile with key strategic audiences online on social media, the website, digital channels and through content creation.
- Support the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies, tactics and deliverables, in line with the brand proposition; develop and implement quarterly communications plans.
- Working with HR, lead and implement internal communications projects and plans including delivering a monthly internal newsletter and updating the intranet.
- Develop and deliver communications campaigns for positive social change.
- Track analytics and create regular reports detailing effectiveness of communications campaigns and our digital channels.
- Build and maintain relations with local and national media and identify opportunities to amplify our successes and impact.
- Draft press releases and respond to media requests.
- Ensure consistency in terms of tone of voice, branding, messaging and frequency of communications across all channels.
- Source, create, and post content for our social media accounts (using Sprout) and the website, working closely with a range of teams across the organisation including delivery, business development, funding and partnerships.
- Take complex and varied information and translate it into content that promotes the work of TAWS and its impact to diverse audiences
- Proof reading, research thematic issues, new digital tools and media channels.
- Monitor national and local trends, news and opportunities and provide regular internal briefings.
- Keep abreast of new and emergent thinking across wellbeing, community development and tackling inequalities.
- Maintain and update an organisational media library (photos, videos, stories, and audio) in line with data protection/consent.
- Capture and record media to promote projects and key priorities in line with data protection/consent
- Provide design support for comms collateral, reports, newsletters, brochures, flyers, posters and presentations using appropriate software (e.g., Canva, Adobe, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) for a range of audiences.
- Carry out all duties as may be reasonably assigned from time to time and within the level of this job description.
Knowledge,skills and experience
- A sound understanding of the UK social and political landscape and inequalities.

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategically minded individual to become our Head of Operations and a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. You will have experience working in a senior role in the areas of operations, HR and governance. You will help the charity comply with health and safety requirements, safeguarding best practice and data protection and lead in developing organisational policies.
You will have a passion and flair for improving operational processes and efficiency, administering CRMs, and monitoring and evaluation to ensure we operate most effectively. You will not shy away from problem-solving operational challenges and thrive in supporting the core team (of 10 staff) to ensure the smooth running and ongoing development of the organisation. Responsibilities include:
Leadership, Strategy and Governance

Be an active member of the Made in Hackney Senior Leadership Team, working together to galvanise the organisation behind the strategic plan

Contribute to strategic discussions on the future path of the organisation; providing oversight on key initiatives as required as a member of the Senior Leadership Team.

Proactively participate in and/or lead team meetings to ensure effective communication and mutual support

Provide lead support to the Board of Trustees, assisting the Chair with trustee meetings, keeping the Charity Commission website updated, and assisting with trustee recruitment, induction and training, board reviews etc;

Act as the lead staff team representative on the Resource & Remuneration board sub-committee
HR & Training

Lead the organisation’s HR function ensuring employment practice is legally compliant and fair, with a focus on being a fully inclusive employer;

Keep abreast of the latest guidance in employment law and HR legislation, acting as the lead liaison with Croner external HR support;

Act as MIH’s Lead for:
Safeguarding - conducting regular reviews of safeguarding policy, procedures and regular training for staff, trustees and volunteers and completing;
Data Protection - ensuring Data Protection Policy review and organisation-wide compliance and responding to any data incidents or breaches;
Training - overseeing staff/volunteer/trustee training and lead on implementing staff wellbeing initiatives eg. socials, team building days etc; -
Oversee monthly staff salary payment and coordinate with external payroll provider;

Responsible for regular organisation-wide policy, procedure and risk assessment reviews

Oversee any organisational structure reviews and ensure a system is in place for staff to receive regular and motivational feedback, and feel supported and able to perform their role;
Salesforce Admin
To be the main point of contact for core users' technical support and training needs, and to develop the Salesforce platform to improve organisational efficiency, relationship management and income generation. Intensive training will be provided to support this role.

Act as the system administrator and manage admin functions including assigning new users, creating reports, dashboards, surveys, application forms etc;

Onboard and train new users, and grow the level of expertise among the core team;

Implement custom features when new work streams/programmes are set up and as organisational needs grow;

Oversee support partnerships with external technical support and training providers.

Support the Head of Fundraising & Communications and Community Programmes Manager with the creation of reports and dashboards in salesforce to present programme outcomes for funder and trustee reports and the MIH Annual Report;

App Integration – use apps such as Mailchimp and 123 Form Builder (survey software) and integrate with Salesforce
Venue Management
MIH has a part-time Venue Manager who is responsible for the general upkeep and maintenance of the ‘Liberty Hall’ kitchen venue. The Head of Operations will oversee them and support key areas of venue management in the following ways:

Manage relationship with venue partner ‘Clapton Commons’ to ensure key services of venue are running smoothly and represent MIH in oversight committee meetings;

Ensure venue and office equipment is safe to use and repaired/replaced/PAT tested on time;
-
Ensure the venue meets the latest Health & Safety requirements, Fire Safety Standards and is fully accessible;
-
Support acquisition of new kitchen equipment when required, such as ovens, hobs etc either from a donated source or purchased from a supplier;
Finance
-
Organise quarterly budget meetings between the core delivery team and Finance Manager to review budget and expenditure;
-
Ensure the finance team understands the requirements and deadlines of board meetings and provide reminders to them for preparing the required financial reporting.
