Inclusion Barnet is Barnet’s Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisation (DDPO), led by a board and senior management team of disabled people, and we’re passionate about using our lived experience of disability to work towards inclusive communities and greater social justice for all. This role works on issues across all Barnet’s diverse communities, and all work needs to be undertaken through an equality and access lens. Therefore, we’re looking for someone with their own lived experience of disability (which could include mental health issues or a long-term condition), a commitment to the social model of disability, and an ambition to contribute to a fairer society for all. The successful candidate will be our strategic lead within our award-winning Barnet Together partnership, working as an equal partner with Young Barnet Foundation and Groundwork London. You’ll be overseeing our community organisation support, ensuring that the team meet their KPIs and that we also deliver on our work to challenge inequalities for marginalized groups. You’ll represent the voluntary sector at the most senior level in Borough meetings, and support the development of the VCSE Alliance for North Central London.
You’ll also oversee our libraries, strategizing and identifying opportunities to enhance the service, and act as contact point in our role as Locally Trusted Organisation for the Grange Big Local.
To succeed, you will need extensive experience of the voluntary sector, partnership management, and the gravitas to represent the sector to senior local leaders. You’ll be a natural problem solver and an advocate for equality, as well as a collaborative, coaching manager; a great relationship builder with tact and emotional intelligence, and a champion for the contribution of the sector to the borough, and society more widely. This is a UK based role, and whilst most of it can be done from home, candidates need to have, or be willing to relocate to, a base within about two hours travel time from Barnet. We also operate a Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) system.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with excellent communication skills to join the staff of a social enterprise. The core function of this role is to handle new business enquiries from prospective clients, discussing the most appropriate service to meet clients’ needs, delivering the sales process and supporting the team manager. MAIN DUTIES
1.Providing operational support to Business Development Manager, including taking telephone enquiries from clients and arranging sales consultations. Supporting the Business Development Manager with sales consultations during holidays and at peak periods.
2.Being first point of contact for new business client enquiries, responding to messages from new clients and scheduling sales consultations with prospective clients. This includes acting on new referrals for paid service consultations within 24 hours, identifying and advising on the best service to meet the client’s needs from initial assessment of their situation, and promoting confidence in Beacon and our ability to meet the client’s needs.
3.Drafting and sending detailed estimates to prospective clients following initial consultations and following up to close the sale.
4.Establishing a rapport with prospective clients, utilising Beacon’s reputation within the industry to generate business and maintaining excellent communication throughout the sales journey.
5.Managing the case allocation process including responsibility for ensuring cases are allocated in a timely way according to case deadlines.
6.Generating and sending out contracts and associated paperwork, and processing completed contracts for clients engaging in a paid service. Liaising with caseworkers for a smooth handover of the new case, ensuring that expectations are met and key deadlines understood by the caseworker.
7.Maintaining good communication with colleagues in the Information and Advice team to facilitate the smooth transfer of prospective clients from an advice call to a paid service consultation.
8.To keep relevant and sufficiently detailed case records following each client contact, ensuring that all client information is kept up to date in line with Beacon’s systems and procedures, including data protection policies.
9.Keeping sales data software up to date and producing monthly sales reports for Managing Director.
10.Responsible for the effective operation of client administrative procedures including operating and maintaining database and filing systems.
11.Arranging for the safe and secure transportation of sensitive client files and medical records for caseworkers and clients.
12.Attending line management, supervision and team meetings as appropriate.
13.Provide organisational, administrative and secretarial support to the sales and casework teams as required.

Background Information
NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC) is the name given to a package of healthcare that some people need to receive due to disability, accident or illness. People who are eligible for CHC have the full cost of their care and accommodation funded by the NHS. This relieves families of sometimes astronomical care bills.
The criteria for determining who is eligible for CHC are highly complex and can be very difficult to understand. The assessment process is lengthy and detailed. Likewise, the appeal process can be very daunting and perplexing.
Beacon’s roots are in a service provided by Age UK Oxfordshire, to provide free advice and support to families trying to navigate the CHC system. Beacon is a social enterprise that spun out of this service ten years ago and has supported over 100,000 families across England.
Beacon provides a free CHC advice service, funded by NHS England, as well as advocacy and representation charged at a lower cost than many legal firms. We are well renowned as England’s foremost experts in CHC and frequently advise policy-makers on policy changes and updates to the guidelines.

Housing Rights Manager

About CARIS Families
CARIS Families is a small, frontline charity that supports families who are homeless and living in overcrowded multi-occupant hostels in the London Boroughs of Hackney and Camden. Life in temporary accommodation hostels entrenches children and their parents in poverty and disadvantage. Families suffer from acute overcrowding, inadequate basic facilities and a permanent sense of unsafety. The nature of hostel life isolates people from their support networks, decimates their physical and mental health and becomes an adverse life experience in itself for families already suffering the trauma of having become homeless.
CARIS Families exists to provide early intervention to mitigate the worst effects of hostel life and homelessness for children and parents in our four target hostels. We do this by providing hands-on play, learning and social activities to help children meet their potential, improve families’ wellbeing and build their support network. We provide a holistic family support service that case-works with each family individually to reduce financial and other pressures on them as they wait for a permanent home. We also use our data and learned experiences about temporary accommodation to join campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation policy and practice, both locally and nationally.
We have just received funding to employ a dedicated Housing Rights Manager for the next two years. This is an exciting addition to our team, as it will be our first staff member dedicated to helping our homeless families with their housing case. The housing system is notoriously opaque: families tell us it can be a hopeless minefield to navigate independently and that they often can’t access meaningful help with it, resulting in years-long hostel stays. Our Housing Rights Manager will step into the gap and work with families on an individual basis to gain the information and support they need to progress their housing case and expedite their move-on into a suitable home.
About the role
Our Housing Rights Manager will be a key member of our Family Support Service. They will manage a weekly drop-in clinic from within the hostels where they will assess new housing cases and develop a support plan with families. They will manage a full housing caseload of housing support work, collaborating with relevant local groups, local authority partners and law centres to progress families’ housing cases. They will learn from the barriers families tell us they face, develop CARIS Families’ housing advice service in response and use these learnings to contribute to campaigns for reform to temporary accommodation practices and policies locally and nationally.
In their first year, the Housing Rights Manager will work in partnership with housing solicitors at Shelter to write a Housing Information and Rights handbook tailored to the processes of our target boroughs. The handbook will aim to demystify the temporary accommodation system in our two boroughs, explain residents’ legal rights and help them understand their options. It will form a key part of the support we can offer and allow us to reach many more families in hostels than our small staff team can individually case-work with.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a committed staff team of just 5, working in a person-centred and community-minded way to make a real difference to families on the frontline of inner-London’s housing crisis.
